    Default Aftermarket GPS Recommendations?

I ride a 2013 HD Tri Glide. I have an older Garmin Zumo 660 thats being a pain. I like using a GPS on longer trips or when I have to go into bigger cities. Any recommendations on a GPS unit?

What problem are you having Mine is mounted with a Ram Mount with the antenna on the Tourpak. Works Great.

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

It doesnt want to charge through the port on the back. If I open it up and attach to the port inside it will charge.

    Antennae? for what?

I've always had good luck with Garmin but there are soooo many different models I wouldn't know whats better or worse about each. I currently have (3) Garmin Nuvi 2555LMT (for 2 bikes and a car). Bought the 1st one "new" at Costco and liked it so much much, I got 2 more (used but excellent condition) over time on ebay. Any Garmin designated "LMT" have FREE lifetime updates for the maps, etc. New maps are published quarterly and you download then off the web site. Whatever you choose, best wishes...

Thanks. I have 3 Garmins. The first I bought long ago was a NUVI. Its a little small for my old beat up eyes. I have one that is much bigger, like a tablet that I use in the car. Its nice and does lots of stuff. The Zumo has always been a little quirky for me. Ill keep working on it until I get it to work.

Just wondering though if there is a better option.

I used google on my phone early this week. It wasnt all that bad.

The Zumo line is the designated motorcycle GPS from Garmin. It is the only one I know of for the streets that is waterproof.

That being said, I have a Nuvi 1450LMT with the 5" screen. Lifetime maps updated 4 times per year, and traffic. The traffic doesn't work now, as the traffic reciever is built into the power cord, and my cord quit, so I got a standard replacement a lot cheaper without the traffic receiver. I mount it on the bars with a RAM mount. It moves bike to bike and to the car as needed. It isn't rainproof, but I cover it with a zip-lock bag. Haven't had a problem even in the worst rain we have ridden.

Here is the Nuvi with a RAM mount:

    And the rain resistant version:

I have a Garmin 660 LM purchased less than a year ago. Compared to the Nuvi's that I've got, it works like crap. It's fine for finding an address in town, but for routes between cities it's the pitts.

Whether it's set for MC, or auto, shortest, quickest route, it will invariably take you out of route by MILES. I always plan my route the evening before, know highway numbers, cities to pass, etc, and the 660 ALWAYS goes out of route by miles. And yes, I've tried all variations of settings, we have used it for over 30k miles this year, so I know how it works.... or doesn't. The Nuvi's I've used are much better.

I could never recommend this model, and I've not used any other Zumos, and probably won't.

Download the WAZE app on your phone. It is by far the best at advising you of up coming traffic and getting you around those issues. Been proven time and time again in head to head comparisons by several test.

Before you you jump on me about your internet connection not being good where you live or travel. I cannot remember a time that my phone lost signal long enough to affect device actually if it has ever lost a signal I wasn't aware it happened. Maybe it did and I didn't notice, and this included some riding in E. Ky. & W. Va.

I was a Garmin fan, and didn't think there would ever be anything to replace them. ......but..... I would give every Garmin I have (6 counting 2 hand held devices) away before I would delete my WAZE app.

    Thanks Bronson512.

I just downloaded WAZE. I put in a destination that I am very familiar with. Everything looks great so far. I will be messing with this a lot.

Not quitting on my ZUMO yet. Its become a puzzle that I must figure out.

A problem I have on the trike is my 66 yr old eyes have a hard time seeing the screens sometime. I can however get verbal help via Bluetooth. I like it.

Waze is good, but you need Unlimited Data on your phone, or you will pay the price for used data. It could be your GPS needs to have the Mapping up dated. Good luck.

oldNbold, getting used to it can be quirky but be patient. It's very user active and will or might adjust your route as you travel. Will shout notices to you about obstacles in the road (saved me twice in one day) and many other things.

Beware, it will drain your battery so it's best to have it plugged up. Also when you get off make sure you put it to sleep or you won't realize it's running in the background.

But the the price is right!

FRR, WAZE is free, load it up an play with it (did I just say that) I think you will be like everyone else I've convinced to try it.

If you don't I'll be one of many WAZE users who goes another route around you while you're stuck in traffic. Cheers

    Default WAZE

Personally I would never recommend WAZE because (as I see it) I would only be recommending more people would be texting while driving. WAZE might be a great app BUT the updates and hazard reports come from people driving.

I completely agree with you, this is a problem. So please don't think I'm arguing with you.

WAZE has voice command mode also.

I don't think WAZE will allow you to enter data while moving anyway unless you select and option stating you are a passenger. So there are ways around every safeguard if a person wants to. Even with Garmin.
