First Issue on My 2017

Took the new trike out Saturday for a 300 mile ride, came home and started washing the bugs off and found a loose hose clamp on the rear exhaust heat shield. While I was working on that I found something else rattling, did some investigating and found the rear exhaust flange was not bolted to the motor.



Looked a little closer and found the exhaust flange nuts sitting on top of the transmission.



Spoke with the Service Manager at the dealership this morning. He said these bolts are installed at the factory and are not on their checklist of items to check, they are now on his list of items to check.

Check your bike over and don't trust the dealership to find issues.

There was no tremendous pharting noise from the loose pipe? Good find on something that shouldn't be loose from the factory.

That's the Cool Flow Fan they sell now for the M8 motors, that's one of the items I had the dealer throw in on the purchase. It actually works pretty well.

By chance did he have to play with that exhaust flange to install the fan....Looks like by the way those nuts are sitting, Some one removed them ,Laid them down, so they won't lose them.. But forgot to Put them back...Ive done that a few times myself monkeying around with engines...

By the way thanks for the heads up....You made me look at mine, All tight...

According to the Service Manager the rear exhaust did not have to be removed to install the fan. I do find it hard to believe that working in that area the mechanic did not notice the loose hose clamp on the heat shield, or that both exhaust nuts worked their way loose and conveniently landed on top of the transmission while riding.

Very suspicious, Cause two nuts normally don't spin out at the same time and land in the same place....The truth will never be known, At least you caught it in time....

why can't people just admit they made a mistake? We are all human and it happens. The service manager should just have said "OUR BAD" we will fix that right up. The circumstances as described point directly to a mistake.

HMMMMM, I dunno

I would bet they did not both land there by chance

I replace my exhaust nuts with brass high nuts

With lock washers

The high nuts protect all the threads from heat, they make a good heat sink also

Torque and recheck them @ each oil change

Torque to 10-12 Ft Lbs JMO

I suspect that Rhino is absolutely correct...
