    Default Power Vision Problem

I ordered a Power Vision through DK Customs Tuesday and received it yesterday (Thursday). Great service as always. I installed it this evening and Loaded the map into the ECM and the bike started up OK. I accidently hit the "Flip Screen" button and could not get the screen flipped back. Turned the bike off and restarted, screen was flipped and I could not get past the first warning screen where you had to tap "accept" and the screen was locked up at this point. Turned the bike off and let it set for awhile, unplugged the unit and plugged back in. Started bike back up and Power Vision came back on, was able to flip screen back to normal and cycle through the various settings, etc. Only problem now is the Check Engine Lamp goes off after a few seconds when you first turn the key on as it should but then it comes back on and stays on even after the engine starts.

Anyone had this problem or have any ideas? I don't know if I can ride it or if I am shut down until I can get in touch with DK or Fuelmoto on Monday.

    Thanks,

    Sunman

OK, the Power Vision now seems to be working OK and I was able to flip the screen back to normal. The Check Engine Lamp is still on. Using the Power Vision I checked for DTCs and it showed code P2185 - ETC Sensor High. I tap clear and it said "Success" so I assume the code was cleared but it came back as soon as I started the engine. Same code. I looked in the manual but could not find code P2185. Does anyone know what this code is? Is there a list of DTCs somewhere I can access? I took the bike for a short ride and it ran fine but the code still shows up in the Power Vision even though I cleared it twice.

    Thanks,

    Sunman

Thanks. I found this link last night and also the codes on the Fuel Moto website. On the Fuel Motto website they list "P2185 -ECT Sensor High". My Power Vision gives me "P2185 - ETC Sensor High". One says ETC and one says ECT. Don't know if this is just an error or ETC and ECT means two different things. Guess I will have to wait until Monday to talk to DK or Fuel Motto to get some help. The Check Engine Light never stayed on until I installed the Power Vision.

P2185 Engine Coolant Temperature sensor High. Oil temp or coolant temp depending on system.

You can find all the codes here > https://www.fuelmotousa.com/p-29661-...ble-codes.html

Thanks Bob. I guess one of my concerns is I never had any codes show up until I installed the Power Vision. According to my shop manual ECT is Engine Coolant Temperature and ETC is Electronic Throttle Control. The Power Vision shows P-2185 ETC Sensor High indicating an Electronic Throttle Control issue. The Fuel Moto website gives the code as P-2185 ECT Sensor High indicating an Engine Coolant Temperature problem. So that is rather confusing!

Have you tried reloading the stock tune to see if you still get the code?

+1 on Ron's suggestion. Put it back the way it was when you started and see if the code goes away. I do not know about the new ones put in 2013 you had to cycle the ignition at least 5 times to clear the read out and light.

This code may not be historic

This means it is not a hard code

What happens if u ride the bike?

I would ride it and keep track of the temperatures

After you are sure it is not over 335 degrees rescan for codes, record them and call Fuel Moto or Kevin @ D K Customs

The puters on these bikes are getting pretty smart, The Power Vision is a smarter tool IMO and will give you very acurate info this is my opinion from playing with mine

I have got into the deeper workings of the Power Vision, I like how easy it is to navigate and set your bike

Reloaded the stock tune Check Engine Light went off. Started bike up, light stayed off. Reloaded custom tune from Fuel Motto light came back on. Started bike up and light stayed on, code shows up again in DTC. Each time I loaded the stock tune and then reloaded the custom tune I heard a loud click (one click). Bike starts and runs fine with either tune. Think I will just ride it and watch the temp gauge and see what happens. What do you think?

    Thanks,

Thanks Jack. Each time I have checked the DTC the code says current. The bike starts and runs OK with either stock tune or custom tune. Only difference is the light staying on. Think I will leave the custom tune in it and ride it and see what happens. I have the gauges set up to monitor engine temp.

    Thanks,

The click IMO is the load of tune marrying to your ECM

Have u had your hand on the throttle prior to this? The reason I ask is the fly by wire is VERY sensitive and will remember the last position

Also, I dunno how many miles u have, BUT there has been an ongoing problem with the Fly By Wire throttle

Fretting at the connections is the main problem

Now this may be just a coincidence, but bears looking at

TBW Issues Explained by HD Service Bulletin TT418A a MUST READ

This is some must read info for everyone that has had issues with the TBW. This is a service bulletin issued by HD on 1/7/2011 it is bulletin # TT418A: DTC's P2135 & P2101 Theory & Diagnostics. I am going to condense this some but I also believe from my past experiences with my TBW that this also would include the P1510 code.

TT418A service bulletin applies to 2008-Later Touring, Police & Trike Models

Symptoms: Driveability or Performance Concerns; Abnormal or Erratic Mechanical Operation; Intermittent or Erratic Electrical Operation.

Note: Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) circuit DTC's P0120, P0220, P0122, P0123, P0222 and P223 should take diagnostic priority over a P2135 code. If any of these TPS codes exist concurrently with the P2135, they should be investigated first using the diagnostic manual.

The TCA has two potentiometers (designated as TPS1 & TPS2) and a electric DC motor for controlling the actuation of the throttle. The two TPS sensors work opposite of each other. As the throttle plate opens , TPS1 voltage ranges from 0.0-5.0 Volts, while TPS2 voltage ranges from 5.0-0.0 volts. The sum of the two TPS voltages should always measure approximately 5.0 volts. These wire are: TPS1, pin # 37 (BN/V wire) of the ECM, and TPS2 pin #36 (BN/R wire) of the ECM

The TPS1 and TPS2 sensors should never add to more than 5.13 Volts Direct Current (VDC) or less than 4.87 VDC . A sum of voltages out of this range should register a current P2135 code.

    Troubleshooting:

It is believed that FRETTING CORROSION is a major contributor of this code. A poor connection at the Throttle Control Actuator (TCA) can affect the sensor voltages reported to the ECM and this will set this DTC. As you can see from the General Information section, the sensor voltage only need to be altered by 0.13 VDC to possibly set the code.

The most common vehicles to have these symptoms are those with more than 8,000 miles (12875 Kilometers) or 103 cubic inch and larger engines. Vibration is believed to contribute to the FRETTING CONDITION.

    Repair Procedure:

    1. While monitoring the TPS1 and TPS2 voltages on Digital Technician 2 (DT 2), wiggle the TCA [211] and the ECM [78] connectors.

    2. If the voltage changes while wiggling the ECM connector , replace the affected ECM terminals (part # 72605-08). These wires are: TPS1, pin #37 brown/violet wire of the ECM, and TPS2, pin #36 brown/red wire of the ECM.

    3. If no voltage change is noted while moving the ECM connector , the connection issue could be in the TCA. Replace all socket terminals with NEW terminals (part # 72663-11, used in current production) at the TCA connector[211B].

    4. BEFORE CONNECTING the TCA CONNECTOR, clean the male TCA pin terminals with a swab and alcohol, and ASSEMBLE WITH DIELECTRIC GREASE.

    DTC P2101

General Information: The TCA contains two potentiometers (designated as TPS1 & TPS2) and a electric DC motor for controlling a actuation of the throttle. TPS1 & TPS2 are mounted in the TCA. They are connected to the keyed shaft of the throttle plate and used to communicate the throttle plate position.

Each TPS supplies input to the ECM in response to the position of the throttle plate. The ECM activates the motor in the TCA to move the throttle plate, based on signals from the Twist Grip Sensor (TGS). When the ECM send voltage modulations to pins 2 & 3 0f the TCA to move the throttle motor, it checks fo subsequent TPS1 and TPS2 voltage changes. If it does not sense TPS changes it will set this code.

Troubleshooting: First verify that the throttle plate moves freely when engine is not running. If it does not the TCA needs to be replaced.

Poor ECM connections seem to be the most likely cause. Be aware that this issue may be aggravated by the seat pan making contact with the ECM connector. In most cases, this is caused by the installation of an aftermarket seat.

A poor connection at ECM pins #29 & 30 could cause an interruption in voltage to the throttle motor and set this code. Similarly the ECM uses voltage from pin #52 yellow/green wire to supply power used at pins #29 & 30 and could cause the same symptoms.

    Repair Procedure:

Identifying the connection issues at this location may be difficult.

    1. Replace all socket terminals with NEW terminals (part #72663-11 used in current production) at the TCA connector [211B].

    2. BEFORE CONNECTING the TCA CONNECTOR, clean the male TCA pin terminals with a swab and alcohol, and ASSEMBLE WITH DIELECTRIC GREASE

This may not be the info u need but it is good to know and keep handy

Here is a diagram of the wiring from the grip to the blade @ the throttle, if u can unplug the wire connector @ the throttle actuator, clean the connections carefully, apply some { light coat} dielectric grease this could solve your problem. My 15 Freewheeler twist grip actuator went south @ 5k miles, it was covered under warranty, it did the SAME thing yours is doing now, Good Luck and hope u get it solved

Thanks for the info Jack. I just got back from a run to a hamburger joint. 25 miles over and 30 miles back so only a 55 mile run. Had the custom map from Fuel Motto loaded. Had 4 gauges set up: battery voltage, engine temp, ambient air temp and fuel economy. Voltage was 14.20 to 14.30 which seems about right. Engine temp stayed around 255 to 260 when running in 5th gear at 60 mph, 3,000 rpm with the Mighty Mites on. With Mighty Mites turned off temp went up to 270 but came back down to 260 when I turned the Mighty Mites back on. At one point running 70 mph in 6th gear, 3,000 rpms temp went up to 275 deg. but came back down to 260 when I dropped back to 60 mph in 5th gear. Temps seem pretty good if they are accurate. Ambient Air temp didn't register at all. It stayed at 190 deg. which is the default high limit. It read 190 from the time I started the bike to the time I turned it off when I got back. Fuel economy is not accurate either. It read between 58 mpg and 78 mpg most of the time while running 60 mph, 3,000 rpms in 5th gear and I know that ain't right. When I gassed up and calculated the mileage it was 31.5 which is about normal. I will talk to Fuel Motto or DK on Monday and mess with it some more tomorrow. None of the codes you show above in your last post has shown up. Only the P2185 ETC Sensor High which goes away when I load the stock program back in. I will check out the connectors as per your post and see if that helps. I currently have 21,000 miles on the bike but had no problems or codes until I installed the Power Vision last night.

    Thanks,

    Sunman

Just saw this thread. Already responded to PM from Sunman. It looks like an error was made and a tune for a Twin-Cooled was sent instead of a tune for an air-cooled. We should have this resolved with new tune for Sunman shortly.

While this will not damage the engine, it certainly isn't correct, nor will it be the best tune for him.

My apologies, we'll get it fixed up shortly.

    Awesome response

I like the way Kevin jumped in here

I was NERVOUS when u showed your gas mileage

I am currently stuck @ 44.7 MPG This is a REAL number, I have recalculated it at least 2 times recently and verified it via GPS and gallons I put in

ALL I can say is THANKS to Kevin, Devin and how they hooked me up with the Power Vision and Dyno time

Received a new tune and phone call from Kevin already. That is a quick response and on a Saturday too! Won't be able to download and try out the new tune until tomorrow morning but thanks Kevin for the quick response. I have always had great service from DK Custom Products.

Kevin sent another new tune this morning once he got in the office and had access to all of the tunes in his library. Once I loaded it in the PV the Check Engine Light no longer stays on and there are no codes in the system. Problem solved! Took trike for a short run and everything seems to be working correctly. Now I just need to learn all of the features and capabilities of the PV.

Thanks to Kevin for the quick response in getting the problem solved!
