Harvey almost got my Trike

Guys and Gals,

Need some help! I'm in Houston. Harvey tried to drown my trike. Mine is a 2013 TriGlide. Water got above the engine. I trailered it to my shop, drained the fluids and changed filters and filled everything up. Confident I'd done well, I cranked her and took her outside to bathe her. I let her run for 4 or 5 minutes. In that time, she warmed up, then....she started smoking. I glanced at the air cleaner to see milky foam dripping just as the motor shut down.

What I discovered was water contaminated yellow oil. It seems there was still water in the crankcase. I have since changed oil and the filter 4 times trying to get things clear. I'm still getting contaminated, emulsified oil out of it. Any ideas or suggestions?

I'm thinking of flooding it with VARSOL, but considering the "HIDDEN" water, I'm dubious.

I'm a newbie to this, advice will be welcome.

Look on the bottom of your motor. There is a drain plug that will drain the little oil that collects there. Flush a couple of more times and I bet you will be good to go. Up

Welcome to Trike talk, Vinnie....Was it white smoke, That means the water is burning off, You say before it stopped , Did you shut it off, Or did it shut off by itself.?..

My only experience with drowning an engine is with ATC/ATV'S, And first thing i did was to remove the spark plug and crank the engine to get the water out of the cylinders , then drain the oil,And replace the wet air filter And if i though water got into the gas drain that too...And run it at a high idle to blow any water out of the exhaust pipes till it all burnt out...

Be careful removing that plug, if it dont come easy stop or use a heat gun on it

OR u could take the RS cover off, the one below the tappet blocks, u may have to remove the exhaust and maybe the floor board

The oil in the crank case should drain out of there , u can check your cam chain tensioners at the same time A 2 for one deal

The crank case and oil galleries will hold up to1 quart of oily water mess

Very good info, maybe get a new engine?

Electronics don't like getting wet either. You may want to also check any connectors at the water line and clean them with contact cleaner that is safe around plastic. Salt water can be nasty, fresh water is less contaminated.

If the op is talking about #2 below that is the casting plug and it is REAL tight and been known to BREAK the case JMO
