I have a 2012 GW1800 CSC Viper. It just 7000 miles and the tread on the front tire is looking a little worn. Just wondering what is the average tire life for my trike?

Bill, Marc hit the nail on the head. Tire design, roads, and riding style will have major affect on longevity. If you are running a front tire recommended for two wheel Goldwings I imagine you have pretty much used up that tire. They are not designed for the stress the trike puts on them. I ran Bridgestone Battleaxx (BT45) for several tire changes getting around 12.5 to 13K per tire. I switched to the AVON Cobra TRIKE about 12,000 miles ago. This one has a tiny bit of life left but I'm headed to the TT Gathering in a couple weeks so the new Cobra TRIKE tire setting in my shop will got on this week.

I'm like an old race horse..... I can still run the race -- Just ache more at the finish line and need more rest between outings.
A mixture of miles probably 50/50 interstate and the older highways. I've read a lot about the Avon trike tire. I've also read some about turning a tire around and running it on the front?

Good Morning Bill... I tried the reverse mounting thing with the Bridgestone BT45 a couple times but went back to normal rotation. The rational for doing the reverse mounting is not all that strong and to be honest I saw zero benefit. Not one bit more performance, comfort, or longevity.
The Avon Cobra TRIKE tire is a true radial so it would NEVER be mounted in reverse. It's a bit more costly but worth the money. The difference in handling and comfort are noticeable right from the get go and I get nearly the same miles as the BT45 gave me. If you do decide to got that direction Dennis Kirk has the best price I've found. Make sure you get the one with the word TRIKE on the sidewall. AVON part # 90000020646... Unless someone comes out with an even better tire the AVON Cobra TRIKE AV71 will be my front tire of choice every time.

I got 14k out of my Michelin Pilot.
I do almost 100% highway riding.
I now have the Avon trike tire and hope it doesn't last as long.
Im probably the one of a few non-fans of it around here.
Rides and feels like a regular front bike tire to me. I guess because it is.
Your mileage will depend on your riding style and on local road conditions.
You RASCAL!! I didn't know Florida had any twisty roads!!!!! That milage sounds more like an Arkansas or West Virginia rider.
I remember how hard the Florida roads are on tires. Was stationed at Tyndall AFB, Panama City, FL many years ago. My CB550 went through tires like crazy!! I'm sure it had nothing to do with my riding style...

Well that sure explains the mileage!! I hope the time spent was by choice and not some sort of family emergency. That is some fantastic riding around there!! I was there in 2012. Back then I had the '06 GL1800 with a 2010 Motor Trike Adventure conversion. It did twisties REAL WELL but sure would have benefitted by having a Cobra TRIKE tire...

Ran a BT 45 in reverse, only got 14 K. Next one mounted regular. Got 22K. Working on my third. I run 40-41 in front. Stock tires hardly get any mileage. Trikes are tough on front tires and wheel bearings
Are you guys running the 2 ply or 3 ply sidewalls?
Howard, there are only two AVON Cobra TRIKE tires made. One fits the Tri-Glide and the other the GL1800. I don't know if they are 2 or 3 ply. I think the same situation applies to the Battleaxx BT45 and the MPA Just one version of the rear sport bias ply in the correct size for the GL1800. Don't know about availability for the Tri-Glide.

I have run 3 MPA and got over 20 000 miles on each one of them. I now have 9000 miles on a Avon. Trike tire and it's about wore out. Not happy. Don't know what I will do next. g
On my second Bridgestone. Got 14K out of the first, mounted in reverse. The current BT45 mounted correct rotation, has 18K on it, still looks good. The BS's do seem to ride a little rough, a little noisy. I'll probably try the Avon next time.

Thru the years I've tried diferent brands, compounds, and even rotations.
The OEM Dunlop has never failed me . Usually dry rots first on the 2 wheeler front, and gets warn out at 12k on the rear.
Trike is geting thin at 12k on the front . Think il stick with a proven thing . 📞
