Problem with Chrome switch housing and covers.

Just wandering if I can get some input. I am puttring on new chrome switch housings and Chrome switch covers.

I started on the left side. Every thing went great until I put the inner cover on. Got it tightened up and the Horn/reverse button was stuck. It was sticking, and not free. I took the chrome switch cover off and put the black cover back on. Seemed to work fine. Put the chrome switch cover back on, and used the black inner housing. And it worked fine. A long story. I tried different ways. ?? One thing I noticed that when I put the chrome switch cover on, it didn't snap like the original cover did. Has anyone else have any issues like this? Need some help. Well, I guess I fixed my problem by trial and error. I decided to take the reverse switch cap off and put the switch housing on to check if the switch itself was binding. It was not. So while the switch housing was installed, I just put the reverse/horn switch cover on, Low and behold it went right on and didn't bind at all. Still it never snapped in like the original cap did, but it worked. Not saying that it may fall off sometime down the road. Just my review. Jerry

I remember that the reverse button requires removing a "nub" on the chrome base housing ..... since the non-reverse button does not rotate in that direction. You are probably above that nub now.

I hear the Machine Shed in Davenport is a very cool place to eat .... wish I was closer!!

Bob. The kit that I got had the cap for the Ultra, which does not have reverse. That cap has the nubs on it. It also includes a cap that has the reverse (R) on it, which has no nub. For the Trike. Ya Bob, the Machine Shed is a cool place to eat. Good food. Eaten there many times over the years. I live about 4 miles away.

I just went out to test the Reverse button. And of course it was still sticking. I took the housing off and took a Die Grinder and took a little off the side of the opening. Seems to work this time. Hopefully I won't have to do any more modifying.

Mine went on very easy and with a good fit. Both left and right sides. They are the standard HD chrome parts from the dealer.

Ya Sully, mine are also are Harley-Davidson. I see you used the original black caps. I used chrome caps. I tried the black cap and it fit fine. But the chrome one stuck. Just had to file out the housing a bit. I've had 15 or 16 Harleys over the years, and on everyone I put chrome housing and chrome caps on. This one is different than the others. Looks good Sully.

Hey Jerry, glad you got it fixed. Yep, I kept the Black caps so I could see them better. Sometimes when your riding with the Sun over your back and all that chrome blinds you, then you think why did I do that.
