Harley Spark Plug Cross-Reference

Below is a cross-reference list of spark plugs for use in most Harley models. While the motor company only recommends use of their original equipment Harley brand spark plugs, the other brands often exceed original specification and will not void your warranty. NGK and Autolite among others have always been a preferred performance plug for Harley motorcycles. In addition it is often more convenient to use aftermarket spark plugs aside from the enhanced performance. All sparkplugs listed meet or exceed manufacturer specifications.

Interesting post Jack.

I was at my local HD dealer recently to buy, among other things, a new set of plugs.

Out of superstition, the only plug I've been running for years has been their 5R6APP, (Platinum Plus/evo 1340). I was surprised and also disappointed to find they now only stock the standard 5R6A. No premium plugs for evo's any longer.

Makes me feel "old"...I reluctantly bought the standard/base plugs.

Going forward, I'll either order my HD branded platinums online, or switch to Autolite or Bosch platinums when the time comes.

After closer inspection, the writing on the standard HD plug insulator resembles a Champion. I'd almost bet they're indeed Champion plugs, rebranded...

Pete, they are made for HD by Champion to HD specs

In the 70-80s the ground strap was a bit wider abd thicker and the ceramic ribbes were a bit bigger to disapate heat

A spark plug lives in a hostile place, it has to seal compression, disapate heat and light the fire

Our tests showed no ohm change with the platnum plugs, if u cant find the HD ones try Autolite or NGK the same quality plug cheaer and checks out for ohms also

Yes, BUT the plug manufactures want us to check with them

Seems the NEW materials they are using now do not require any thing in some applications. I dunno I have ALWAYS used swome on the threads, guess we all could use spark plug 101 some time
