    Default Long trips...

In general, how many hours/miles can a person do in a day and stay reasonably comfortable? I know the Wings & Harleys are more comfortable than my Suzuki from the get go - - I'm just talking about "in general" here.

We do 350 to 400 on long trips depending on what there is to see.I think the secret is that you work up to the miles. If you do not ride often and try to run 3and 4 hundred days it will be tough. It has to do with the saddle and the bottom getting to know one another. If you can find someone to ride with you it will be a lot more enjoyable I think.RIDE SAFE

The longest we did was 550.. were we tired when we got there yes..
but we would have been tired even if we were in the truck.

We would leave early in the morning seem to make it easier and cooler.. Drink a lot of water and stop about every 100 miles for gas and relief.. and somewhere in there stop for lunch..

I would say for u 250-300 miles would be a good milage to shoot for...????

Can't do this anymore since Cathy's medical problem..

    Good luck and ride safe..

My longest one-day ride on Goldie has been from home to Chattanooga, and that's close to 400. That's about as far as I want to go in a day, depending on weather, traffic, etc. 300-350 is a little more comfortable.

As Katfish says, be sure to drink plenty of water at your stops--long rides seem to dehydrate me. And try to get some longish day rides to get your... "self" saddle-ready.

I love long distance road trips on the trike! One time we did a crazy 700+ mile day traveling across the Canadian prairies (won't tell you how fast we were going) --- and I was still on 2 wheels at the time! But generally 400 - 450 miles is the most that is easy and comfortable. We do take time to stretch and drink water at every gas stop; without that, I wouldn't do nearly as well.

Think it depends on what your destination is and how long do you have to get there and back and the time you want to spend there.
I used to go back and forth to Phoenix, AZ and Washington State on my GL 1100. Would try to do it in three days, so I put on about 500 miles a day.
It would also depend on what there is to see. Now days I think around 350 is good and less if I want to check things out and take photo's.
I always stop around 100 miles or so and take a break.

My wife and I usually ride about 12 hours the first day out on a long trip and around 8 hours thereafter. Last year we did 17 hours, about 850 miles on our way to Texas, but the weather was good that day with some overcast to help. We did the trip to Maggie Valley in a day, but then again it was overcast and that helps a lot as it took us 2 days to get back because of the heat !! We average about 500 per day.

ScalpHunter and I do about 600 or so miles a day on our 'big trips', unless we're going directly to a destination. Longest (OMG) that we've done was 20 hours - straight! - from the Durango, CO area back to home, 980 miles. Nana asked why we didn't go another 20 - didn't have to; we were home!

I had the exact same trike as yours up until two years ago when I got my Tri-GLide, I had my great little Suzuki for 6 years and went on all long distance trips with Harley riders, that included Sturgis riding there and back from Maryland........ for me, 300 miles a day would have been enough, not to say you could not do more, I always hated riding beyond the 300 limit but the group preferred to do 400 per day to make better time.......... but I was most comfortable up to the 300 mile point, after that I was starting to get tired since my ride was always seemed to be a lot less smooth than the big Harley cruisers....I guess watching them ride effortlessly over the years convinced me to move up to a bigger bike.... now with the Tri-Glide I see why they were all still ready to ride at the 300 mile mark.....if you have the time to take off from work for a trip to ride 300 miles a day and enjoy the ride and the scenery that would be my advice....but I sure did love that little Suzuki.............

Best advice I can give you, is never pas a rest area without stopping. The AMA would not condone this but if you smoke it helps to prevent passing rest areas. I normally start off at around 0700 and end my day at around 2100hrs.
Nancy normally sleeps all the way, unless she's harrassing me about one thing or another. Keep plenty of liquids (Non alcholic) available, and try to limit stops to 15 minute or less. The biggest enemy is boredom. You will be amazed at how fast the miles melt away if you don't pay attention to them.
music helps, but be careful there, because too slow will put you to sleep, and too fast will cause you to speed. I would say select a modest goal and a time frame to get there, and adjust accordingly. If you are riding solo, pick up a cage and use it as a pace car. Don't try to keep up with truckers, they are crazy, and drive like strpped banshees. when your mind starts to wander, it's time to stop for the day. I would venture to say that 300 - 350 miles a day would be a good starting point. Above all, be careful and watch out for vans with handicap plates/stickers. You will find you will go farther the firsst and last days. I hope this helps.

My personal record is 1612 miles in one 32 hr. period. After the first 12 hours you don't feel it anymore! I regulary ride over 1000 miles in a pop...Unless my wife is with me. Then I am limited to 300-350 miles/day. It helps to have abnormal brain functions. Music definitely help. I recommend The Ramones at night.
I will be riding from Long Island to Olean, NY Monday morning. About 400 miles (in fairly cold temps). I also recommend 1/2 a caffeine pill every couplle of hours when you do start getting tired.
For the really long trips, 15-20 minute cat naps every once in a while help in middle of night.
All that said, if there is a town I feel like staying in, I have done as little as 200 miles in a day.

Hi fellow riders . The most that I have done in one day was 330 , that was this year. Twelve of us took a trip from Ocala natural forest FL.to Fulton Ga. & back . I think we could have done more , but I agree with the 300-350 mile per day . Hey do they make patchers that say --( 300 mile day, - 400 mile day ) & so on. I would put that 300 miler on my vest . They have them for hunting . 2 pt buck , 6 pt buck ,12 pt, & so on . I do not have alot of these patchers either, lol, but I have alot of fun trying .
    Ride safe, & have fun.

Probably somewhere around 500 for me though I like to call it a day at about 400.

I generally ride aroung 350 miles in a day. I have ridden 500 miles in a day but it's too hard on a guy like me. I like to enjoy the ride so I don't push at all!

    ENJOY THE RIDE!!!
Unless you're in a hurry for some reason, like you have to be somewhere on a certain date, like for a birthday, wedding, or to defend the earth against aliens scheduled for an imminent invasion, just do what you can do comfortably, so that when you're done with your ride, you're still having a good time.
