82 GL-1100 Mods

As we get older and update our toys we tend to take things for granted. Now I, for one, did when I bought the 1100 this past June.<br />

Never thought about 4-way flashers for emergency or PGR use, that maybe the headlight wasn't as bright as the one on the Shadow trike or that the rinky-dinky fog/driving lights on the forks would not light up the insides of a matchbox. It took a "short" in my taillights and instrument cluster to wake me up. <img src="images/smilies/AGGGH.gif" border="0" alt="" title="AGGHH" class="inlineimg" /><br />

I put in 4-ways flashers for under $14. That's for the cost of some wire and to upgrade the bike's flasher since it was the original one and would only just barely flicker. Kind of like some the old guys I know on this board.<br />

The new driving lights (now mounted on the engine guard) when coupled with the high intensity bulb in the headlight enable this old "blind as a bat" man see potholes and deer practicially miles away.<img src="images/smilies/thumbup.gif" border="0" alt="" title="" class="inlineimg" /><br />

And, I now have taillights and can read the instrument cluster at night.<br />

Life is good when you stop to smell the roses and do some upgrades.<img src="images/smilies/wink.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Wink" class="inlineimg" />

Calman I have a 1983 1100 aspencade same color as your 82.

I currently have a 80's CSC sidecar on it Just wondering what kind of trike kit you have on the bike? Thanks Bob

Doing some more upgrades to my 1100 Wing. Acquired another 82 Interstate with blown head gaskets. Was planning on painting my 1100 but the "new" 1100 has a practically flawless original paint job on it (must have been garage kept, 28K miles). Taking the fairing, false tank, side covers, front fender, upper trunk and putting on my 1100 as well as the seat which has the folding backrest. That leaves me with only having to paint the rear of the trike to match the swapouts. And, when I sell off the "old 1100" parts, which are decent looking, I should get my investment back plus have my own personal source of engine spare parts.

Or u could have put the trike kit on the new Wing. good luck with the project. Wow that is like 800.00 miles a year .

Thought about that John but a couple hundred dollars for a paint job is definitely cheaper than swapping out the trike kit. And it's easier on this ol' back!

Hi Calmar are you selling the manifold and carbs from either of the wings, if so, how much.

1sidedar: Not planning on selling any engine parts from the other 82. That's my self-sufficient stock of spares. But I do have all the parts to take a naked GL-1100 to full dress---fairing, sidecovers, false tank cover, top trunk (with chrome mounts), saddlebags (with chrome guards) plus exhaust system, drive shaft . Oh yeah, one frame with GOOD PAPER.
