V8 Trike Trans. swap

Hey Trikers!
Was thinking of replacing the 350 transmission in my V8 trike to a 700R overdrive. Was wondering if anyone else has done this, if so whats involved in doing this swap. The engine is a 350 with a small performance cam. I'm looking for a little better gas milage.

not sure but I think the electronics on the 700 r are controlled by the computer, just guessing you are probably not running a puter. check with some of the hot rod guru's, I could be wrong, again, I guess, well, probably, well most likely. Cheers, Cave

The only thing you will run into is your driveshaft length or tailshaft length. I just had me a driveshaft made for around $100.00. The 700 R4 does not need a computer. I run a 350 Chevy in my Trike with a 700 R4 and everything works just fine. I get 20 to 23 MPG all day long thats one of the reasons I went with the 700 R4. It is the 4160E that needs a computer to make it work. Hope this helps

i put a 700r4 in the boss hoss you need a trans from a mid 90 chevy 4x4 truck with a short tail shaft will not need a computer i have 385 hp and get around 25 mpg.the 700r4 is 1 3/4 inches longer than the 350.

the early 700r4 has a lockup convert with a single wire that can be hooked to a switch to engage it or a converter without the lockup is available after market. the only real problem is if it drops the converter it will also take out the vane style oil pump and leave you walking

as someone that has installed many 700's in hot rods & muscle cars, you will need a control for the lockup torque converter. there are several inexpensive kits on market. most have a few parts go in tranny & have a switch that goes on side of carb linkage. have had great luck with kits from b&m & tci.
