Riding in the snow today

We don't get much snow down here in Mississippi, and when we do, it rarely sticks.

So today was a chance to play a bit.

I was going to ride to the shop, but all the roads have a layer of ice under the snow, and there are accidents blocking all the roads to the shop. No one is able to get there today.

So I just went for a little 45 minute putt.


It's 22* and still snowing...






...as I head out.






Electric jacket liner is plugged in, and I'm toasty warm...







...as I do a little power slide in the driveway...

Rode around for 45 minutes. Saw very little traffic. I did see more than a few places where folks had slid off the road.






Because of the layer of ice under the snow, there was no significant traction. Any moderate acceleration or braking and I would lose traction...and there was no sharp turning, when I tried, I would just go straight, even though the front wheel was turned.


I have ridden when it was just snow (no ice) before, and it handles amazing well. It did well today also, as long as there was no abrupt acceleration or braking.

No riding here today for me. 30 deg. here presently with a 15 MPH wind so the wind chill is pretty low. I don't have any heated gear! Supposed to be 25 deg. here tomorrow and Sunday morning. Back up to 75 to 80 deg. on Tuesday. Think I will ride then. Have fun in the snow.

Good to see you out riding the trike in January snow.
Don't know if they salt treat the roads in MS but if they do you might want to wash the undercarriage after such a ride, as salt will migrate into every nook & cranny as well as into electrical connectors, wiring, etc. Nasty stuff that literally destroys a vehicle in short order, when exposed to it on a regular basis.

Its the main reason not many ride year round up in the Snow~Belt of our nation,

You no I grew up in IOWA and I rode my bike to school just about every day and didn't think a thing of it . Just getter DONE and go for it.

We've had some interesting weather here last two days .... snow ... then cold ... then rain ... then colder ... lastly .. more snow ... driving even in the Jeep was interesting to say the least ... but ... it was fun to spin around

Nice pics. Looks like fun. 3 degrees here in central Illinois. -6 windchill but sunny. Trike will stay put today
