Just Joined Get Trike Tomorrow

Hello, I stumbled across this forum last night when I was thinking about buying a trike.
I made a deal for a 04 White Goldwing with a Trikeshop and a bunch of goodies.
I rode it the first of the week and then rode a couple more Saturday and we decided this one was the best deal for us and what we wanted.
It has everything we wanted except the Rake. Is that a real necessity? I rode one with and one without Sat., and only for a few miles since it was in the high 30's and I think I cold tell a difference but this is the first trikes I've ridden.
Glad to find the Forum. Looking forward to useing it often.

Hey Okie, and welcome to TrikeTalk! Sounds like you've found the right trike for you! Beautiful! Be sure to post pictures so we can all admire it .

As far as the rake.... you will get different personal opinions. Many who don't have it are very happy as they are. However, those of us who did get it will swear it is the best thing ever! I know for me, I would not want to be without it. I have the EZ-steer and it definitely contributes to the joy of riding. I would say that if you are going to do a lot of twisty roads, you will probably want the easier steering the rake will give you.

Hey Okie and welcome aboard. Glad you found us during your surfing. The rake kits are pretty much like all the other stuff, strictly up to you. You may need to ride those two a few more miles to make sure, but the main difference is at low speed (U-turns, parking lots ect.) you'll notice it a little easier to turn in sharp curves and so on. Sorta like power steering. I don't have it on my Motor-Trike, but that's just the way I like it, some do, some don't. As I said, if possible, make a few more laps on those that you rode, and see how much difference there is and decide if it's for you. Good luck and again, Welcome to our family...

Hey, thanks for the fast replies.
I rode the first one Sat. that had been raked and it felt good then the dealer said I needed to ride the one without it. The second was a Champion conversion and the first was a Mototrike I did notice a difference as I was pulling out of the parking lot and going down the road I could pull on it just a little and if felt sorta jerkey (May not be the right term). Not darty or anything, just something that I could feel in the hadle bars.
The one I bought and will pick up tomorrow was the first trike I had ever rode and I didn't know what to look for.
My wife wants to go ahead and get it done right now. So we probably will. We will be riding a lot in Arkansas and Missoure as well as Southern Oklahoma and it gets pretty twisty in those area's.
I'm sure looking forward to the grass turning green. We've got good riding clothes so I think we will be useing it pretty often right now.

A BIG WELCOME ABOARD Okie. I will second my fellow trikers on the rake. I myself have ridden both with and without. The difference as stated is mostly felt at low speed. Your personal physical stature and strength also is a factor. Bottom line you can always have it added later when you have a better feel for the subject. It will not cost any different later then now unless the dealer is willing to give you a discount to seal the deal. Bottom line get what is going to make you happy. You will like the trike better if you are happy when you ride it not fighting it. Ted

Welcome to the board and Congrats on that new trike . Make sure U read some of the comments on the Experiance rider threat lots of good info on there. Also Pictures pictures we want pictures of the trike and U guys enjoying it. Ride safe.

Been riding my DFT ( also IND rear as the Trike Shop is ) I like the feel of the stiff front end. Also the turning Radius is smaller. ( U turns are easier,) If you never get lost then no problem <LOL> As said No big deal getting it done latter. I personally would try it first for about 1,000 miles before I did it. Front tire choice is also a big factor. Change the front tire out to A Pilot Actv rear tire. This will make steering a lot easier also.

Welcome aboard OKIE! I have some fond memories of Tulsa, as my parents moved there for a couple years when I was a kid. Got my first 'real' bike then, a Simplex!
Anyway, a hearty welcome to Trike Talk! You are going to enjoy your new toy, I can assure you of that! The rake deal, as Nana and others stated is really subjective. As John said, ride it a while first, then decide. Almost everyone who did the EZ steer later will say they wish they would have done it sooner.

Welcome Okie! I am just baout 2 1/2 hours away from you (by Rt.66 - hate the turnpike) in Anderson, MO, 30 miles south of Joplin.

When we got the trike, it wasn't raked. It came from Minnesota, and curvy roads up there are about like riding Hwy. 11 up to Pawhuska. (For those not in the area - some sweepers, nothing to write home about) Not much need for the rake. Right after we got it we took a trip from Anderson to Memphis along the top of Arkansas. Don't think there were more than 2 miles of straight road until we got down to the Ark. delta region. Great riding, but I had a knot in the middle of my back something firece. Put the rake kit on and, as others have said, it was like power steering. IMNSHO, if you are riding a lot of twisty roads, get the kit. But as John and ultraboy said, you can always have it put on later. That way you'll appreciate it all the more.

Hey, Ozarkrider I've been through your town several times.
I'm an Auctioneer and we sold out the old Gineger Blue Resort several years ago.
Maybe we can hook up some time. We love to ride the Ozarks. That's one reason we bought the trike thought it might make it a little easier for us to ride.
I just got it today and only rode it about 50 miles but I sure liked what I saw today.

You are more than welcome to come by, just let us know, we even have room for overnights. Ginger Blue Resort is no more - burned and bulldozed 2 or 3 years ago. A firend of mine has an independant shop accross from where the resort was. Like taking people down the road to Noel where the hiway is under the bluff. Unless it has been raining.

Try it for a while without. You can always add it later. Some folks can't live without a rake kit and others do just fine without. My 2008 Roadsmith was delivered with a 5 1/2 degree rake. I was apprehensive because it "sounded" excessive; but find that it is more than fine. I have never ridden an easier steering trike and it doesn't wander or shake, at all!
