Default Fram Oil Filter For GL1800

Has anyone used a Fram oil filter for their GL1800? Did you have any problems with it? My friends tried it in their bikes and had problems, they said it was woven differently and it caused problems. Any help or comments would be appreciated. I ride a 2006 GL1800 Lehman Monarch II. Thanks.

Paul, if you're talking about an automotive filter from Fram, the problem can be the pressure valve in the filter. I was told once that the pressure required to flow oil through the filter is greater on a car filter than a motorcycle / atv type filter. If it's a Fram motorcycle filter, then I can't see any problem. I use Emco filters that I order on line for the GL-1800, and I've used them for years with no problem.

What is the number everyone uses for the oil filter on a 2006 GL1800 Goldwing?

    Thanks!

Thanks Trikerjim, the filter is a PH-6607 which is the proper filter for the GL1800.
I got the # right off of the Fram website. I would just like to know if anyone else who has a GL1800 has used this filter and if it has performed O.K.

Paul. I think you should have no problems with that filter. Like I said the problem comes in when people use the "crossover" index to substitute a different filter, trying to save a couple of bucks. My son-in-law did that on his lawn tractor a couple of years ago. ( Briggs & Stratton filter was $12) He bought an automotive filter that "crossed over". Engine ran about 3 hours before it seized up...

I always use the Honda filter.
I buy 4 of them at the Davis Rally every year. That way I always have a couple on hand.
Price is always around $5 or $6 a piece.

I stick with a motorcycle filter made for the 'Wing, aftermarket or stock depending on the deal. Like 1800 06 Champion Trike, I usually get them at the Davis Rally, buy enough to last the year and an extra to have on hand.

There was a great article that came out 5 or 6 yrs ago from an engineer who also rode. He did an analysis of oil filters used on Wings and concluded that Fram was the worst of the after market filters. He spoke highly of the Puralator ML 16817 I have used the Puralator for several years and never had a problem. I wish I had the link to the article, but I don't. The engineer had some very compelling arguments for the conclusions he arrived at. It may be worth a search to see if it is available on line. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Why would you want to use a filter from a company that can't even spell farm right? (Yea I am bored today)

I use the Fram filter on my Goldwing and all my other engines.

I like to tell the story about the 1996 Camry that we bought new. I changed the oil every 5000 miles and the Fram filter every other oil change. We sold it to a friend when it had 120,000 miles on it, he still has the car and it now has over 350,000 miles. Engine has never been apart.

We do not have them this far North, but just in case, post all the numbers for the Goldwings, that way we can add it to the list of suppliers I have listed.
    Thanks.

I have used the Fram filter on my 2001 wing and now on my 2007 trike. I also use the same one on my wifes 2005 yamaha Tour Deluxe model with no problems so far.

If I were you and heard that, I wouldn't consider using Fram. I use only Honda and never heard anything neg. said about their performance. I guess the reason other than price that some use others is they are more available since not everyone lives near a Honda dealer and doesn't want to pay shipping. For me the extra I pay divided over about 6,000 miles is worth the piece of mind.
