Default Re-geared CSC/Ultra

OK, so I got the motor sproket changed this weekend. Went from a 34 to a 30 (07 model). Man, what a change! No slipping the clutch or pinging on take off, 6th gear is now usable under 60 mph! 3000rpm = about 68mph in 6th. 3400rpm is 75mph. Don't know why but it even starts smoother, usta bang when it started, now doesn't. Cruise works better now to. I can pass now without dropping a gear. Rowing around in that 6 speed is a lot more fun with this new gearing.

So far the only downside I see is having to shift out of 1st a little quicker, sometimes if you're making a turn from a stop sign you will have to shift before the turn is done, no biggie, just different.

Find myself trying to shift into 7th gear now!

Wished Idda done this along time ago.

Dwight,
You betcha! I just received my 30 tooth compensator sprocket and 84 link primary chain from Evo Industries. Now waiting for a crappy non-work day to install. Can't wait!
Evo was saying that the 6th indicator wouldn't work on an '07, what did you see Dwight? Not that the little green "6" was a big deal anyway....

    Ultraboy,
I'm using a Daytona Twin Tech ecm on my trike. I haven't had a 6th gear indicator since I installed it. They say there is a workaround with the DTT unit so the light will work. I never got in touch with the right guy at DTT (Schroeder, I think) to get the info needed. Don't really need it but it would be nice to have. I thought you were going to replace the countershaft pulley, what happened there?
By the way, I never got installation instructions with my kit from Evo, the kit was open and they must of fell out somewhere. I called them to ask about the new sprocket touching the spring pack housing, it looked like it would after it was torqued down. He said to use a feeler gage after it was torqued (with the chain on) to check to see if it touched. Mine was ok, but he did say about 1 in 10 touched and the housing would have to be ground back so it had clearance. I have to say again, it is a huge improvement!
Dwight,
Your post on the Evo Industries product was enough to convince me that the 30 tooth compensator was the way to go. After talking to them, I was able to secure a pretty decent discount, so the trans pulleys will just go into the stockpile of HD parts, LOL.
The "instructions" are not much, but they do talk about the clearance issues. I have them in PDF if you want a copy for your records, just shoot me a PM with your email addy, and I'll email you the PDF. I'm currently running the Daytona TCFI3D, and the 6th gear light has always worked. Like you say, it's not a big deal tho. Having a 1.53 primary ratio is the way to go, especially considering the 32/66 secondary (2.06) the 07 and up bikes.
What cams are you running? Currently I have Andrews TW54G's in there.

Mine's a 103 right out of the SE catalog. The heads are the 103+ and the cams are the SE 255. The new gearing has really woke this thing up, even two up it runs really good. I was surprised when I made a comment to the Missus about how much better I liked it she even said she thought it was running a lot better!
Did pretty much the same thing. Went to a 30 tooth Andrews gear. Had to go with a smaller tooth belt so I went with a high performance belt instead of the HD stock.

Don't forget, you will need to recalibrate your speedo. I used this and it worked great but the plugs are for an 06 and earlier. You will need to cut into your ECM harness and find power, ground and the speedo sensor wire to tap into on an 07. Not to worry, it was an easy thing to do. Look in the shop manual and get the proper wire numbers going to the ECM plug. If you need them I have them written down on the paperwork that came from Dakota. They will be the same wires for the DTT.

https://www.phatperformanceparts.com...oductCode=SIM1

No the 6th gear light will not work after you do this conversion with the HD ECM.

I called Dakota Digital about it and got that answer.

I can't remember which sensor it is but the ECM looks for a certain resistance on this sensor at a certain MPH.

It doesn't see it so the light will not come on. It may be the speed sensor.

While in the primary I also installed the SE clutch spring. It was cheap and made a world of difference on the clutch slippage.

I did this right before I triked her. I lost about 2 mpg on the street and none on the hwy that was noticeable.

Are you sure you have to correct the speedo? I changed the compensator sprocket, and I think the speedo uses the tranny to determine speed. I might be wrong but I think I'm still ok.
Changing the compensator spocket does not change the speedo. My orignal thought was to change the tranny sprocket to a 30 as well, but changing the primary ratio makes more sense (to me anyway) If I would have been thinking ahead when I put the rear in, I would have changed to a 70 tooth rear sprocket (or chain drive, LOL)

Ok, now you guys have me all confused. (I had blond hair at one time).

Dwight changed the motor sprocket from 34 to 30 teeth?

Ultrboy changed to a 30 tooth compensator?

Reksul changed out the front belt gear on the tranny?

I think you guys are having fun with some of us mentally motor incompetent folks.

I have talked to all of you from time to time and trust your answers 100%.

What set up or combo would be the best and least expensive to have done?

Remember, I was a pilot for many years. Just type real slow and I'll be able to follow along

The compensator change would be the cheapest. I went the other way because of other mods going on at the same time which made my front belt sprocket change the easier way to go.

BDN, The "motor sprocket" and "compensator sprocket" are one in the same. The 07 and up (6-speed) bikes have a 1.35 primary ratio (34 tooth compensator/46 tooth clutch) 46/34=1.35. Changing the compensator sprocket to a smaller size, increases RPM, making for stronger acceleration. In my case as well as Dwight, we changed the compensator to a 30 tooth, making the primary ratio 1.53 (46/30)

Now I'm off to find a sprocket.

    BDN,
OK, been off the site for a few days, busy here at the shop!
Anyway, I answered your PM on the 30 tooth sprocket, which I'll repeat here for the edification of others...

OK, the 30 tooth sprocket and 84 link primary chain we are talking about here is for 2007 and up HD 6 speed Touring bikes. Installing the new sprocket and chain will give you a primary ratio of 1.53, making for stronger acceleration. Ok, here's the rest of the story:
The kit is available from Evolution Industries. It is their Part Number EV-3084, and lists for about 295. website addy is:
    Evolution Industries U.S.A.
The fine print on this installation is that the 6th gear indicator light may not work, and cruise control will work on 2007 models, but not on SOME 2008 models.
I installed it on an 07, and the light works, as well as cruise. Personally, I would hate to lose the cruise control, so it would have to be a trial and error on an 08 and up model with the electronic throttle.....
Don't ask me what this will do to your warantee, y'all are on your own there.

Thanks Ultraboy, I ordered the kit Friday. Hope to get it by Wednesday. HD shop had my bike tore apart already trying to find my vibration, so installation shouldn't cost much.

I should only loose my 6th gear light not the cruise.
