Default Finally!

I feel like I can quit lurking and post now. We FINALLY got a trike. It is a Harley Davidson Ultra classic with a Motor Trike conversion. We adopted someone else's baby and looked for about a year for one. It is not exactly what we had in mind, but it is beautiful just the same and we are as excited as can be to finally call ourselves owners. The trike should be delivered by the weekend.

We live in Fargo, North Dakota. Our first major planned trip is the Sturgis Rally in August. Of course, there will be many shorter excursions before then.

Our mission now is to insure it. Who do you recommend and why?

Thanks,
moonstar

Moonstar....LOL! You could have joined in at any time while you looked and planned for a trike. But lurking is good too . We are just so happy to have you here. Be sure and post some pictures (start an album on your personal profile page..PM me if you need help getting started).

As for insurance, you'll definitely get answers from people, but you may want to read over this older section of discussion while you wait for current answers: Trike Insurance - Trike Talk Forum

Welcome aboard, Moonstar!

As Nana said, it would've been fine to post before getting your trike--in fact, I got lots of info here that helped me choose my trike. BUT, now that you are here, welcome!!!

This bunch loves the photos, so be sure to post some as soon as you can--can't wait to see your baby!

Welcome aboard: Like Nana, & JuJu stated you'll be getting some responses & also check over the Site Nana suggested. I would call Harley Davidson insurance and they'll check every Company for you. When I converted my Ultra over to a Trike I notified them and Foremost lowered my premium. So read the suggestions from everyone and check around. I'm sure what State you live in also has something to do with it.

Welcome aboard!

I saved about a grand with a switch from Progressive to Foremost AARP. Two bikes and my Ultra Motor Trike.

There's tons of good info in the thread Nana posted so hand on to your hat.

A big ol' howdy to you and welcome to both TT and the wonderful world of triking. You are gonna have more fun than a human being should be allowed to.

Many of the folks 'round here are riding "adopted" (nice term !) trikes, so don't fret about that. Like the rest of us, you'll quickly make it your own with all the goodies that available.

Insurance varies widely from state to state, so shop around. Start with your current auto carrier - particularly if you have your homeowners there too - and go from there. That was my best deal, but most seem to find Foremost the most competitive. Since you are in ND, unless you are planning to be a diehard snow and cold rider, I would also ask about lay-up coverage.

Welcome, from another Ultra rider. Post some pics please!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! We got the baby home (it is beautiful) and while hubby has been the main rider I have had my turn as well. Yes, I shifted, turned, and drove into a tight spot without wrecking anything! I enjoyed my little amount of time on the trike and can't wait for more!

We ended up insuring it with the company that has our home, vehicles and camper. Cost us $343 per year for more than adequate coverage. My husband believes in being well insured and feels comfortable with the policy!

Now we are debating whether or not to rake the front end. We are trying to decide if the cost vs. benefit ratio is worth it. I believe it is, but he is undecided yet.

Thanks again for the welcome and the replies!
Welcome Moonstar!! So happy to see you've got your trike. My trike came with the rake on it, so I can't compare. What I have heard though the rake is a godsend. My Trike is so easy to steer! Oh, did we say, we Love pictures here.

I forgot to look see what trike kit you have. Mine is a DFT no rake . It can be a handful in on a tight on ramp at 45 MPH but I like it. I feel like I am really riding it. MHO of course.

Welcome to the three world! If you haven't yet, read the thread in the General Forum from experienced riders. Now about the rake: rode Her Purpleness without, then with. Like adding power steering, and in the twisty roads here in the Ozarks, that is a good thing.

Now Moonstar said: Now we are debating whether or not to rake the front end. We are trying to decide if the cost vs. benefit ratio is worth it. I believe it is, but he is undecided yet.

Welcome aboard !
We just jumped right in with both feet asking questions here !
We do not have a trike YET but are getting headaches on trying
to decided which way to go .... LOL ....
I think it is swaying more and more towards a new Red Tri-Glide.
Our Dealer where we have bought 4 bikes upped the antie by
offering us $2k more for Lynn HD Street Glide than other Dealers.
Which makes it really $2800 because we only would pay 5% Sales
Tax on the remaining $16k.

What I was saying is that he offered MORE ($2,000) than 2 other Dealers.
But the $2,000 is like $2,800 because if we sold her bike out right we
would have to pay sales tax (5%) on $16,000 and not the $32,000 price.
What I am going to try to see if he will go along with is ......
New Red Tri-Glide with reverse, alarm and no setup fee.
He inturn takes her 07 SG with $6k of options and $16,000 cash.
If he agrees I think we would do it !
I finally got a price sheet for the Roadsmith & Motor Trike kits and
when I add them up (with reverse & easy steer) than add approx.
$1500 for installation it comes to the same price of a new Tri-Glide.
