Default Stallion Story of the day

OK today turned out to be quite eventful. My wife drove her stallion to work, at 2:30 she tossed her backpack purse in the trunk to head to school to get our son. as she turns onto the street the trunk flies open, she realizes it and goes about another 100 feet to a pull off, gets off and see her purse is missing, looks down the road nothing. She calls the office 15 people spill out into the street (she's the President) nothing, all this is less than a minute. At 4 the police call good news someone has turned in your purse. They even left their name, said they found it on the street all busted open. She point out to the office there was not a mark on the purse and the zipper was not broken, and she would have seen them picking it up.

Sad part is they took all the money and a book of stamps, but good part did leave her credit cards drivers license, etc.

Moral of the story, get the trunk adjusted so it does not have to be slammed and always check it to make sure it locked. An realize work production goes down with a Stallion in the parking lot.

    Default trunk also came open

I looked into my rear view mirror and noticed something wrong, OH YES the trunk was open, how long had it been open.
I back tracked about 3 to 4 miles and found my coat in the middle of the street, stopped and picked it up, found most of my mail that I had picked up from the PO BOX earlier, never found my ball caps (2) and a few other things. when I got home I put 2 washers on both sides of the latch bar(bottom) to raise it. now of course the trunk lid is up in the air, not flush but it does stay closed. now I look in the mirror at the trunk lid all the time.
I mounted a switch in my trailer so that if the key is turned on a beeper makes lots of noise if the lid is not latched tight, guess what, going to do the same thing to the trunk.

let me know what you come up with,

My wife's laptop was in the truck but it did not fall out, which is great cause it would have meant I would be spending my weekend setting up a new computer instead of RIDING.

    Hello,
My trunk flew open about twenty minutes from dealer after paying 250 dollars for dealer prep.No one offered to reimburse me for my loss even though the negligence was not my fault. I adjusted the locking mechanism and has stayed shut since. Anyone who found my leather jacket in Arizona desert north of Phoenix, please enjoy.

Bella said it is a hard trunk to close, I agree. For years I hated as people slammed the doors on my lexus.... "It is not a FORD" I would shout! Drove me nuts, and still does. Even my Pathfinder did not require more than a light swing of the door. Now my 74 Camaro had a two stage closing procedure as the door sagged, and would not latch unless you swung for the hills!

All the trunks that I have seen are hard to close. I have heard that it was to seal the trunks and keep the water out......... But I think, it is because they loaded it with FORD parts and without the windup and the slam it just would not feel like home for all those parts!

I have a procedure to close my trunk... Everything I need must be in and out of the trunk, then I check for the Key (this is important only when it ends up inside the trunk when shut tight and locked) then I close the trunk with just enough umph to latch it. Then, I check to make sure it is latched.

Every once in a while I forget, but luckily I never lost any-ting.

I had 2 extra keys made today at the Ford dealer just for the reason of locking a key in the trunk. $ 30 bucks each

Almost they have some type of security code that has to be programmed into them. A smart Key I guess.

Default kind of a fix for trunk lid opening while driving

OK like I said earlier my trunk did come open and I DID lose stuff.

so I fixed it, I installed a switch which is closed when the trunk is open and open when the trunk is closed.

I had a siren which I was not using, it is hooked to the switch and when the trunk lid is open AND the key is on the siren goes off to let me know.

I wired it to Fuse 9 which is a 5 amp fuse and is only used to tell you when the door (what door) is open and only has juice to it when the key is on.

Thanks for the pictures SilverD, cool Mod. Your picture also answered a question I had about routing the hyper light LED into the trunk.
My RoadsmithGL1800 trike is wired to use one of the saddlebag and the top case dashboard indicators to tell me if the top case or the trunk is unlatched.

    Hi fellow Stallion owners,

I thought I would let all of you in on what MIGHT be a BIG SECRET. Yes your Stallion key has a chip in it that is PROGRAMMED. "NOW THE BIG SECRET" I believe your stallion ignition does not care. The smart key reader may not be there or maybe just not connected in the ignition key system.

This is my wife's second Stallion. I made this discovery on her first one (Unit 175). I thought, because it was an early production, that was the reason we did not need a SMART key, even though 2 came with the Stallion. Well her current Stallion (Unit 406) which is also an "08" (late year production) is the same way. Now maybe the real "09's" the reader is connected in the ignition key circuit, so maybe someone would like to try and let us all know.

What you do is take your Smart Key to any hardware store that makes keys. Tell them you would like a duplicate key made that is not a SMART KEY because you want it to just open the door. If you try to explain to them about the key being for your trike you will be all day getting it done. So just let them think the key is for a FORD car. The blank number is "H75". After they make the key and you pay your approximately $5 go try it. I am pretty sure that on all Stallions the non-SMART key will start it.

Now the question becomes if I am correct, is there a problem with the system? Or when the wiring was adapted for the Stallion the reader got left out? Your owners manual states that you have a SMART key so you would assume the SMART key is needed and that you have a level of security. Well in my wife's "2" Stallion neither one needed the Smart key. I can not believe that just her 2 Stallion's have not needed the SMART key.

I really would like us Stallion owners to see if this is true for all of our Stallion's. Please check and post a reply. It's only a little time and 5 bucks to check it out. If this is correct then a security feature you thought you had is really not functioning or may not even be there.

    Thanks,

    Ted

#349 also does not have the security feature turned on. After having a jacket and the extra key stolen, I had a key made at the hardware store, it works fine.

Mattel, I missed that post. Did anyone find a way of activating the system? Do you know if TBMS said any thing about it? Point me to your post on this please. Ted

    Anyone contact TMS about this?
Are they going to correct the perception of security?
What is required to have the Smart Key technology turned on or installed?

Can this be false advertising or bait and switch?
Could this be a quality control issue where it was just not programmed?

    Default Spare Chip Key

I remember we covered this issue in another post. The problem is people are not putting the correct title on this issue so we can search and come up with what we already discussed (I am also guilty of this).

Here is the story. At the time of my bikes production, the ignition comes with the sensors and the key has the chip in it, but the system is not active. Yes the owners manual has this information in it, but again, it is not activated. If it is activated you will see the lights on the dash light up in the sequence stated in the manual. I hope one day they will be able to activate this system, as it looks like a great feature. I have requested this from TBMS in the past to no avail. It is not false advertising because they don't advertise this feature at the sale, or on the websites, it is only listed in the owners manual.

You can request a regular key and it will only be a few dollars. Any key will start your Stallion. I use a spare for my ignition now.

    Thank you Mattel
I also think this would add a little peace of mind if it was working.

Has anyone asked the Ford Dealer what it would take to activate it?

I asked, but they did not seem like they wanted to mess with it. They told me the system was not codded, and TBMS did not activate it. Has anyone else asked?
