Reverse for RSV Trike

I'm looking to Trike my Venture and was wondering how bad it was to backup without reverse... Looking at a Hannigan kit....

On many Blogs,

RSV Trike owners have mentioned that they have been happy without having reverse. At most you can just hop off & push it in reverse as long as you are not going up a steep hill. It rolls easily on level ground, but rolling 1250+ lbs. up a hill is something else.

Just like before it was triked, I & others just carefully select our parking.
If you get stuck, just ask for help pushing it out.

By the way, a Hannigan conversion is very nice.
I recommend also getting it raked, upgrading fork springs to Progressive Springs & upgrading clutch pressure plate to a Barnett with "Green" heavy duty springs (plus replacing the half friction plate with a full plate).

Hi Chris , You will love the Hannigan Conversion.

The Trike will back up and push forewords with ease.

I was really worried about that at first as well.

The past four years I have had no issues with
rolling it around, As far as making sure you put
in progressive springs is your choice. I have never
had any issues with my front end rake. and I do not
plan to add them in the future. (owners option)

If you REALLY want a reverse there is one company that
you can have it done for around $1400.00 If you chose to do so.

You really don't need the reverse - unless it's difficult for you to push it. I find it very easy to maneuver - it's very easy to push the bike. The easy thing to do is to park where you don't have to reverse - or don't park to far up in the space - leave room to reverse the bike with ease. I can push the bike with one hand easily on flat ground. I own the 2009 RSV Hannigan kit.

I just use the light bar.. kinda of like your hand bars you installed. that is a great idea !

Nice thing about a trike is that it doesn't fall over. So I drive up all sorts of inclines and let gravity back us up. Could never do this with two wheels.

Hannigan MotorSports is near the end of the development and testing of a bolt-on Electro-Mechanical Reverse Option for the Yamaha Royal Star Venture. The All New Assembly will be "bullet-proof" and in keeping with tried-tested-& proven HMS design, build, and performance standards and have better speed and power than any existing Unit of similar core design.

HMS anticipates it being completed and available for production and retail purchase within the next 30-60 days. It will be available for any new order conversion at that time and forward. It will also be available for retro-fit which will require the Trike to be brought to the Factory at first. The retro-fit will require additional labor and time and some new pieces and parts be added to or swapped-out on the existing Unit. If the existing Trike is outfitted with Aux Fuel Tank, that will need to be replaced with a tank of revised design in order for the Reverse assembly to mount.

Pricing will be determined for both Initial Build Option and Retro-Fit soon and will be posted to the HMS web-site and here as well. Hopefully this will help many current and future Clients with their individual needs and desires.

Similar Option will be available later on for the BMW K1600 GT/GTL and the Kawasaki 1500/1600 Vulcan/Nomad series as well. No time line or ETA on those as of yet. Stay tuned for updates as they become apparent and available.

Nice that Hannigan finally comes out with a reverse, but I'm not happy that John did not tell me about it before I ordered one of the last Venture kits of 2012. I could have been told to hold off for a few weeks as they knew about it coming up. Just checked there web and is now offered. To late.

Hmm... Looks like at least $2,280 for reverse on our trike. A lot of cash for something we don't even need. May have bought it initially, but not ready to pay to have our auxilliary fuel tank replaced to make room for reverse. Guess my wife has job security.

I agree Leo, thats a bounch of $$ and the loss of the aux tank but it should of been offered to me for all the $$ I just spent.
Anyway I'm still happy in the long run, Coach Rice posted picks on his web and she is looking good. The hard part is waiting for it to be completed.
