Thread: Any news on the VPC'S?

Default Any news on the VPC'S?

Since my husband adjusted my clutch yesterday and I am now having lots of trouble holding it in, I need this ASAP. Any help forthcoming?

He said he needed to adjust it because I was slipping it too much. Just the little adjusting he did, made the arthritis flare up in my left hand.

If we aren't going to do this, I will go ahead and order on my own. That is how bad it is.

IHP.. we should be good to go.

VT and I had some more discussions this weekend and all that is left is to contact UB for the order. Since we are all getting the same model this should be easy. Since I don't have UB's phone number we are reliant on his checking his email or site posts. Nana and Mike just visited him so she may have his number.
Sorry to hear about your flare up and hope you start to feel better soon.

Hey Ironhorse.......you will be getting one for your husband later on after he feels yours. This will surely help your situation and if it's still not enough, you can have an even weaker spring installed under the thing. I doubt that you are worried too much about burn-outs and wheelies anyway. If ya'll want to eleminate the clutch adjustment hassle alltogether.....you can install a hydraulic clutch and forget about ever having hubby adjust a single thing.
There is just no use in trying to ride around hurtin'.

I think HD has what they call a heavy duty hydraulic unit now, but with the earlier model you were limited to stock springs as it was not designed (iffy at best) to pull the stronger SE spring, but with this VPC....the stock HD hydraulic clutch works wonderfully.

Don't let us confuse you here. The vpc is a stand-alone item, the spring choice is a stand alone item and the hydraulic clutch is a stand-alone item. You can mix-n-match this stuff and do not have to do all of them at one time. Try this VPC first and see how it works for you.

Vt....I tried a hydraulic clutch on a bike at HD when we were trying to figure out what to do with the clutch pull. It wasn't for me. It was even harder to get my hands around and to pull. My husband has the ez pull on his 06. It is like a feather. That is why he hates mine and really has been to every dealer at the rallies trying to find an answer, which has be NONE. So far this has been the best and certainly is worth a try.

The hydraulic is "suppose" to give you a little easier pull, but there is really not much difference. What it does do is eleminate anything to adjust...it's a plug-n-play.

I still do not want to complicate things for you and all this stuff is still stand-alone. This vpc will be about as weak as you can get the pull and still have enough clutch engagement to pull the trike, but there will be another option. You can always add the easy-pull even after the VPC. Some 2-wheelers are running both the easy-pull system and the VPC, but their rides weight much less than a trike, but it will work as long as you don't want to hot-rod. AIM even sells a revised ball-n-ramp system. (No...I do not expect you to know what that is.)

There is one one thing you can do if none of this gets it down to your liking, but it's rather expensive. You can actually install an "automatic" clutch in your primary. This thing lets you stop-n-start without ever touching a clutch lever. You will still need to use the clutch to shift in motion (up or down), but it is almost a silly non-existant pull.

The auto-clutch option will cost you around $1,000-$1500 depending on who you get it from and who you get to install it. There is some light machine work to do in the primary and I don't like to grind up my toys. This would be your very last option, but I am hoping the VPC and an easy-pull (if necessary) wll solve your problem.

No go on the auto clutch either. I really wanted that but just can't convince hubby. Plus all the dealers say that will void warranty. If I had a conversion, then i would do it, but not on a factory trike.

I agree with hubby on this one. You would't modify anything you can't put back in stock condition, but it is a major modification to the clutch components. You seem to be pretty understanding, my wife would simply say..."I don't care, when it comes to my personal comfort your money is no object...just do it".

I sincerely hope the vpc solves you problem.
