ride it or trailer

Would like to know how many of you ride your trikes or use a trailer
or tow device for events that are long distance?


Type of VW trike? Auto stick , 4 speed,etc


Just curious on what would be considered long distance by some?

The only time I trailer is to drop off/pick up from dealer for service. Never trailered off Long Island and of my bikes/trike. Ridden all over US and parts of CAN. '10 HD TG currently.

The only time I,ve had to trailer is in the middle of winter to get the trike serviced.

I have believed for a long time "No TRAILER UNLESS IT IS BROKE",but Now my feelings are that if you are uncomfortable riding long distances then by all means trailer it.That is much better than missing an event such as THE RALLY in June.See ya'll there.RIDE SAFE

Vw, 4 speed 1915 engine.
Ride it. Ridden from Atlanta to the keys-medium ride. Planning Atlanta to new York, through Peoria to west coast and back this summer.
I trailer it if I am taking a trip with the family and want to take it along.

I have to agree with Lucky. The decision to ride or trailer is largely one of personal comfort and ability. And at my age, comfort is absolutely paramount! For now, I intend to ride wherever I go, but I'm sure there'll come a day when a trailer will have it's appeal. That'd beat staying home, at any rate.

VW homebuilt, with a 4 speed. For me, long distance is any trip that takes a day or more (6-8 hrs at a stretch in the saddle, gas stops not withstanding) to go one way.

Mine will be on a trailer this year when we go camping. Age and M/S has caught up with me, so I need a mini home away from home. Only one rally/party on the list so far this year and it will be on a trailer then also.

I trailer north in the spring and back in the fall is all. That is because we have too much stuff to carry with us for a 5 month stay. We ride the trike everywhere while up north, even into Canada.

Icey weather and breakdowns are pretty much the only exceptions to riding. Oh, maybe the if the boss has something to say about it.

I always said that I would never trailer mine but I used to say that when I couldn't ride a two-wheeler anymore that I would quit riding. well, all that macho stuff is just hogwash....do whatever makes it possible for you to enjoy the ride. I haven't trailered mine yet but believe this, I wouldn't be ashamed to if that is what it took.

I totally agree with you. I would not be ashamed to trailer mine but if possible I plan to ride mine.

So far, I've only trailered my trike when it has to go in for servicing that will take more than one day. But who knows what circumstances might arise in the future. For a very long distance and depending on what I have to take with me, I'd probably have the trike inside the trailer.

Last spring we rode to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Took us a little over 9 hours and spent 3 days riding the Parkway and then another 9 hours home. Have to say with a bad back and knees it was pretty draining. In October we went back down but this time we trailered the trike to a Blowing Rock and spent 5 days on the trike enjoying the area. I have to be honest, the last trip was much more enjoyable and relaxing. We put almost 10K miles a year on our Trike but going forward I think trailering long distances might be something we will consider.

I haven't had mine for even a year yet so I haven't done much long distant riding so far. However, we are planning a trip to Colorado next year, and will probably go in our Scion XB and tow the trike. 2400 miles round trip, and our trike is just not that comfortable for the driver on long jaunts. Plus, my wife takes a lot of crap with her on a 10 day vacation! lol

Just bought my first trike. A VW that was in need of a lot of work. Just about got it where I want it. My wife has pins in her back so we plan to trailer.

As of now I ride, but if my body broke down then I could see using a trailer.
