I think I may have resolved my “Running Hot Problem”!
On 105 degree days (indicated on Outside Air Temp (OAT) gauge) I was running a 298 degrees oil temp.
In addition to the previously installed Vance & Hines Oval Slip-ons and Stage 1 AC; today I installed a:
Power Commander V by Moto Fuel w/Auto Tune (richer mixture)
Jagg FLH 10 Row ’09 Low Mount Oil Cooler-P/N2400 (claims to be 40% cooler than the stock 6 row)
Jagg Adapter w/Built-in Thermostat-P/N4700
Big Sky Oil Cooler Fan Kit
Red Line 20W60 Synthetic Oil
I have not had a chance to do a long duration of Interstate State Hwy. speeds since doing the Mod’s but I did do 40 miles of 20-40 MPH of city driving with an OAT of 105 degrees and the oil temp gauge indicated a high of 242 degrees.
This is a little higher than the 230 degrees Harley calls normal but it is a heck of a lot lower than the 298 degrees I previously recorded and the engine no longer pings or generates “leg burn” heat! Additionally, the bike seems to run stronger.
I sincerely believe that there is NO ONE single solution to the running hot problem, merely a combination of several items and I think/hope that I have found the right combination!
