goldwing turn indicators

Can someone tell me how the turn indicators decide to stop?
At first I counted 8 flashes and figured that was what it was, then i noticed that sometimes they seemed to be going longer. I am sure the answers must be in those manuals but I haven't found that yet. Possibly because I keep falling asleep when I try to read them , I prefer a good murder mystery myself.
Can you change how long they flash?

I have an 04 1800 goldwing and my book said it stays on for 110 yards and then cancels. That seems to be about what it does.

Well thank you for answering that, distance makes sense.
I kept having to try to put them on a second time. They were designed with someone with bigger hands in mind and its a bit of a reach for my thumb while pulling in the clutch but at least now that I understand what's happening I can plan what I am doing.

Aside from the distance cancel, the GL1500 at least, has some sensor in the neck that cancels the signal when the bars are turned, then straightend after the turn.

1500 has a bank angle sensor , but since I have a trike I rely in the speed usually by 30 mph it turns off . If the corner is sharp enough it does it sooner. You will note that if the speedometer cable breaks you loose the self can sig, the auto vol radio the cruise control and oh yea the speed ometer.

Well of course I had to take her out for a spin to see if the distance was the key . I love things that are that much fun to check.
It sure helped to be able to predict when the turn indicators would shut off.
The speed and the bars turning have no effect that I noticed so far but I will watch for that as well.
What yours has a speedometer!

Drive at 10 MPH and see how far you can go, then take off at full speed and see how far you go . It makes a difference how fast I get to 35 MPH
