    Default Long Range Travel ?

What is a REASONABLE mile-per-day range one can expect to cover on a trike ?

I guess it depends on your definition of reasonable. I think 850-1000 is reasonable but I know there are those that think 350-500 is a better number. It also depends on where you are going and the type of roads you're using. Lots of variables.

When traveling in a group, average speed works out to 55-60 miles per hour with stops figured in.
When alone, we figure on 65 to 70 mph average - shorter stops, etc.
    Your figures may vary.

We typically ride 750-1000 miles at a time. We have stock seats on our 2008 GW 1800 CSC with B&G seat covers, and they're comfortable for us over long distances. We stop about every 150 miles for gas and rest stops (we're old!) but not long at a time. Average 50-55 miles each hour, at 70-75 mph. Expecting 10-11 hour ride to Eureka Springs, easy day. Yesterday rode 1.5 hours each way to get donuts, pleasant little ride.

I agree with Jim, plus start late and quit early. 300 - 350 it about it for us. But, we do see a lot!

The short answer is, anywhere from 80 to 100% of what you typically cover in a car.

I'm impressed/envious. Yours is an awesome group to average 55-60 MPH. You must really fly to average 65-70 while traveling alone!

</div>My comment was about average speeds while traveling. I find it difficult to average even 60-65 even traveling alone when stops are factored in, under the best of circumstances.

75 MPH,, on a trike? I know many of you feel comfortable doing so. That's 'not' for me! I don't even like going that fast in a car, lol.

I'd just take side roads rather then go beyond my personal safety limit. Just my opinion.

</div>You are wise to not ride/drive beyond a speed at which you feel comfortable. Likewise, if you are impeding traffic it's a good idea to take an alternate route.

From Dover, NH to Woodbridge, VA about 500+ miles, will do in about 12 hours. Several stops for gas and eats. Google map says 9+ hours driving. I would add 2 to 3 hours what Google map says. In a cage you can almost do the trip in one tank of gas, not on trike without an extra tank. Highway driving only!
    You figure!

    Regards,

    Rosy & Janice
    From NH

I find that with breaks, I average 50mph over day. If with wife, usually not going more than 350 miles/day. By myself, I wouldn't bat an eye at over 1000 miles/day. But then again, if I run across a town with something of interest (park/museum etc.), I've stopped after 200 miles (gotta smell those Roses every once in a while).

After many years of truck driving, to average a certain speed you need to travel approximently 10 mph over the average you wish to do for that day.

In other words to average 60mph then you need to go 70mph.

I hope this helps everyone figure an average speed. .

I think you are right but that the overall speed/average speed differential is greater over the course of a day for a motorcycle which makes more frequent stops for fuel, etc.

After 36 years behind a wheel, I'll agree. I could only average 70 MPH. in a log book.
