    Default camping trailer

We are considering a camping trailer so we don't have to stay in motels when we are trike traveling. The one I like is the Aspen Ambassador, but really don't know since we've never stayed in one, much less hauled or put one up. We are fulltime RVers, so we are familiar with RV life, but not with tent-type travels. Any suggestions from anyone that uses the camping trailers? Type of trailer, cargo room, ease of setting up, places to stay, etc? Thanks.

We have the Kwik Kamp with the queen bed . & totally love it. It pulls nice & has 27 cu.ft. of cargo space. They haven't made them for about 10 years. But there are still some out there for sale. They use the dexter axle which is ind.suspension & there is also a fella out there who has got or can get any part you need In the past two years the group I ride with I have found 5 for them . a good used one will run eney where between $1500& $2000.

I have a time out and I love it. There is nothing that hits the ground , the whole camper sit about a foot off the ground so no water when it rains. has a place in the wall so you can have air condition if you want. It also has a table so when it rains you and your buddies can drink beer and play cards. Bad thing is 3600.00 price tag ULTRATRIKE

:no:I had two Time Outs,  then I bought a Bunkhouse . I can set up the bunkhouse faster than the Time out. I found the draw back with a time out is that you have to remove everything from the storage area because this is also your floor area

We had an older Time Out, the door was on the side instead of the end as they are now. I agree with Carroll about having to take all the stuff out - the storage area is also your living space once it is set up. That was drawback, but the biggest one was that you unfolded the trailer, set up the poles, then threw the tent over them. It basically was an umbrella tent on a wheeled platform. (Told you is was on older one, newer ones have most of the tent connected to the base)

We now have a Bunkhouse we really like and use a lot. King size bed, 6'x6' living area, 26 sq.ft. (I think) of storage, sets up easy and pulls like it's not back there. I really like the zipper under the window right over the cooler rack to reach the cooler without going outside. You can get them with a little access flap to put in an air conditioner, and the newer ones can come with zip up plastic windows to let the light in if the AC is attached or it's raining.

I had an Ambassador but that was before I returned to cycling. I pulled it behind my Chevy Tracker. It is a big rig but it has its draw backs.

    a. Really needs two people to raise but one can do it.
    b. Great stowage in the bottom but I found that I had to remove a lot of the gear in order to access the mattresses which nestled in the overhead of the shell cover.

Ended up selling it and getting an Aspen Sentry. Easy to set up by one person and if it's raining you hardly get wet. All gear stays in the bottom of the trailer until AFTER the bed and canopy (with built-in den) are popped in place with the slide-and-click poles. Then, if it is raining you just stay inside, lift the side of the queen-sized bed that's on top of the trailer to remove your bedding, lamps, etc., etc.

Check out the Sentry or the Classic. Both are great on the road and even the Missus can move it around with one hand. It's that light! My GF loves it!

After the trip I just did, a camping trailer is in my future. I will just have to travel more often to justify it. I have looked at the Aspen, and am waitting for literature on the Bunkhouse. Any thoughts welcome.

Big Dog, if U are o62 or over look into getting the America the Beautiful, card from the Govt. it gives U half price off camping in the Corps Of Engineers parks and some state park accept it too... Camping is fun but can hit the pocket book if U have to pay full prices. also if U need any web sites for campground let me know..

I use to sell Timeouts and they are a nice camper.
When I stopped selling them, I looked into the Bunkhouse and switched to that.
The Timeout had to be unloaded to set up and take down. The tent material goes inside of the camper with the luggage. If the material is wet so is everything inside. I liked being off the ground but the hinge, for the side to drop down, gets weak and the floors get soft.
IMO, go with the Bunkhouse or Aspen.

We have been pulling a Aspen Classic for almost 5 years now and love it. It has plenty of storage thatyou can access from outside or inside. It also has a large stand up room so getting dressed is real easy.

That was a great video!!!! and I loved the VW's maneuverability!

Only question.... to get that "evenly distributed weight" thing, will you have to attach the hitch to a reinforced spot on the trike rider's head????

    Oh you're on today Nana!!!

New Triker we have an Aspen Classic and love it. The Aspen Classic has plenty of storage, king size bed and easy towing. We bought it privately last year it was 2 years old and never used for $1500. Bunkhouse is the same except the poles are on the outside of the camper, the classic poles are on the inside.

    New!!! They are about $3500.00.

You can probably negotiate a good price on a new one.

U can check our album, we have pictures of our toyhauler in there.. Also if U ever get aroung Demopolis Al. would be glad to show U ours.. Not sure where U live in Alabama....
There are several different types on the market U just have to figure out what style brand U R looking for, size-seperate garage etc.. size of towing vehicle....

there are several that are going to the triketalk get together in June, in Maggie Valley. If U can would be a nice place to see them with all the toys in them....

    good luck..

We purchased our Toy hauler from Opelika Rv.. U might want to check their web site to see if there are any there that U might like to ride over and see.. Also if U get serious let me know and I will tell U about the prices and other things with the RV. Also if U are 62 and over get the America the beautiful card, or if U R disabled get the golden access card.. gives U half off on Corp of Engineers camping...
Let me know if there is anything I can help U with...

I will be there. I'm taking the Trike Rider's Course on Thursday the 1st, but don't know how much of the rest of the rally I will be attending. If you are in Moulton, you are just a hop, skip, and jump from me anyway.

IMHO, Bunkhouse is the best camp trailer for motorcycle/trike riders. We've had ours to Alaska in 2008 and east Canada last year. Not a problem whatsoever. Aspen is a cheap copy of Bunkhouse with thinner fabric, etc. We had a Time Out and used it one night and couldn't waite to sell it. It has to be unloaded and takes two set up. Just my two cents worth.
