A solution to burning leg

Although I have tall boots I can wear for the heat, I really hate putting them on in the summer. Tonight I took my tri up to the drugstore to get some stuff. It is hot out and my leg was heating up big time. I ride to cool off! LOL! Anyway, I went to the ace bandage display and picked up the self adhering Bandage. I put it on in the parking lot, but it was really long so had to wrap several times. But, my leg was cool! Just got home and cut it in half and put it back on. It is really light weight and isn't hot on my leg. Now I am going to go back to the airport to park my bike. Will let you know how it feels with it only half it's length. I only need it around my calf , not all the way to the knee or down to the ankle. I just love finding solutions!

I must be the lucky one...have no 'heat issues' on my TG per se. The only time I notice the engine heating up is in stop-n-go traffic and it's 90+ degrees outside.

I don't think you have the humidity that we do, either. I can feel the heat when it is 85 and above, but with the humidity it will feel like 95 or more. We have had days here this summer, actual Temp was 88 and the heat index was 101. :eek:

I sure hate you are having heat issues. You know that Mr. Wizard lives north of Atlanta. He performed wonders on my bike. No more heat problems and a bunch more power.

He uses 2 computers while tuning your bike. It may be worth a little trip to Atlanta to solve your heat problem?

I really don't think changing out everything on your bike to get it to run cooler is necessary. A little computer work will do wonders.

I have helped my heat issues a lot with power commander. Not as hot as it was. Roadkill, I think living in New England helps with your issue. But then again, my husband doesn't have the issues either when he takes my trike for a ride. I think a lot of it has to do with my short legs and my legs lie really close to the pipes. My upper inner calf area is right on the primary cover and I have to constantly pull it off.

BDN, I am excited that you are happy with the modifications we did and this worked well for cooling your motor and giving you added torque but fortunately you don't have the same exhaust header pipe set up as a TG. Their rear pipe is configured differently and this configuration puts a lot more heat on the right leg than your older style crossover pipe.

Yes, everyone knows this but I do wish it wasn't so. A true dual system for the TG would remove this extra pipping from the right leg and cool down a rider even with a stock TG by taking the rear exhaust pipe to the left side and away from your left leg. You don't have to add a fuel management system or fancy air breather if you don't want to but this too will help with the heat of the motor but not so much with the right leg heat.

Something you may want to look into !
1" spacers that set the floorboards 1" away from the bike.
Helps to keep legs from rubbing the paint on tank also.
I got ours from SOOS over at HDforums and already told him
that I want a set for Lynn's Tri Glide (when she gets it).

I have the extensions. They helped too! But my leg still touches, I can just move it out further. I do like the extensions very much!
