Rear suspension

I need some feedback on my trike's rear suspension. My wife has back injury & she hurts every time we go riding. Our trike is a 1990 Yamaha Venture Royale that was triked around 2001 w/ a Motortrike kit & a 7.5 Ford differential, solid axle. It, for SOME reason, has 2 shocks w/ springs on the outside of them (not air shocks) mounted on front of the differential & 2 air shocks mounted in rear of the differential. My wife rode on a Honda Goldwing trike w/ a friend yesterday & the ride was so smooth, she was impressed & not hurting. ( this Honda trike has THE SAME rearend as ours, but only has the 2 air shocks instead of 2 air shocks & 2 spring loaded shocks). I also have 2 friends w/ Harley Triglides that also have a solid rear axle, not IRS like the newer conversions have. Both of them ONLY have the 2 air shocks & no spring shocks. I'm looking for some ways to equal the ride w/ our Yamaha trike as the others mentioned & thought about removing the 2 front spring shocks & just using the air shocks. Anyone see a reason why I couldn't do this? I just can't understand why these other trikes have only 2 air shocks & ours has 4, (air shocks & spring shocks). I think if a Honda trike w/ the same ford rearend as our Yamaha, & the Harley trikes that have solid axles can ride that smooth, there should be a way to make mine ride smooth. BTW, all 3 trikes I've mentioned also have Motortrike conversions. I even have the PAPA JACK seats on our trike which helped but suspension rides like a covered wagon! LOL!

Never mind. A Motortrike dealer contacted me about this matter & explained that all trikes have the progressive shocks in front & air shocks in rear of the differential. Seems my problem of rough riding may be due to the lateral bars, etc. not being properly adjusted to the correct length PLUS our trike hasn't been raked so it's not as long as the Goldwing that was raked.
