CB Static

I have a 09 RSV. I started riding with a group that used their cb's to communicate and have to turn mine off when passing under high tension wires and stop lights . The crackling is unbearable. Squelch doesn't get rid of it. I hadn't used it until now.

Does it require some sort of resistor?

it could be a short in the antenna or speaker

Your still under warranty, I had to replace my cable as the wire
inside was broken, also make sure they TUNE that ant. and cable
with a SWR meter as well.

Also , when it was triked all that stuff is messed with.

Thanks for the replies. I will stop at the dealer. It works fine the rest of the time..just doesn't like stop lights!

You will find it is an unfortunate fact of life, I have my squelch at 20 and still have power line leakage interference...

Does it sound like a tapping or clicking noise ?

It is a loud crackling sound

What brand headset are you using?
Try turning on the bikes speakers when you pass a high tension line.
If no static then, it's the headset or the bike's headset harness picking up the "noise".

I worked as an installer for many years..your antenna is half of the system. on a fiberglass body...the antenna needs a ground plane to reflect against.. get a washer that fits the threaded part of the antenna where it is anchored to the body and solder a 102 in wire to it loop the wire around the underside of the body and secure it with an epoxy putty..leave the other end of this wire open..this will be the reflecter ..also solder a wire to the washer and ground it to the frame..have the swr tuned..doing this will kill the noise and greatly extend your range

We are riding 2 Gold Wings although I realize this is in the Yamaha section, but I have a question about static...
Our OEM CBs work VERY well, crystal clear and strong - EXCEPT..
one of them, when stopped at a stop sign, or stopped for any reason, gives off a static when transmitting. It isn't a loud static and it doesn't interfere with voice clarity but it is noticeable. We start rolling again and there is no static while talking. We have tried switching bikes and switching helmets and the result is the same. One bike has a static only when stopped and talking. It doesn't have to be at a traffic light or around high tension wires - just a stop anywhere. Would you have an idea as to what is causing this and how to stop it?

Put the wires UNDER the fiberglass body..102 in is 1/4 wavelength on the CB bandand MUST be open on the end and GROUNDED at the antenna base..do not short the coax center wire to it ..
with an SWR meter in line at rhe radio check the SWR on chanel 40 and chanel 1..if the reading on 40 is higher than 1 the stinger on the antenna must be shortened..cut it off 1/4 inch and remeasure with the SWR meter ..when the readings are very close to the same the reading on chanel 20 should be close to 1/1 which is perfect..with the antenna properly tuned it will recieve the CB band and REJECT other signals (noise )

all cb antennas need to be grounded a loose ground will cause static and a loose wire in the mike will also cause static and be sure the swrs is right .
