Default Lifting a Venture / Hannigan?

I used to lift my 07Venture with the lift adapter/stand from CarbonOne and my Cycle floor jack. Now that it is Triked, how do I get it off the ground?

I would like to get it at least a foot off the floor for oil changes. So far, I have had the dealer that did the conversion do two oil changes, but they are 70 miles away and EXPENSIVE!!!

Do I need to build something?

We do realize that doesn't lift the entire Trike. However, you may be able to use the Jack Assembly with Carbon One's Adaptor Plate you already have to perform that function in concert with the above. Definitely utilize Jack-Stands in the rear when lifting the entire Trike in this manner. Regarding Safety, there is no such thing as "over-kill".

Of course a full Lift properly equipped/designed to raise the entire Trike will do it quickest, easiest, and best. Not everyone is willing or able to purchase, rent or borrow then store one of those every time the need or desire arises.
Hopefully this will do the deed well and safe enough for you and others in a similar situation.

As you know once the bike is converted to a trike the balance point shifts rearward. Before I purchased a mid-rise scissors style lift I my solution for lifting the bike was to use my adapter with the ATV jack and a regular car jack. Progressively lifting front & rear to the desired height then placing jack stands under the frame in the rear. Having a hitch allowed lifting with the car jack centered on the trike. Same at front unless I installed the adapters legs.
After I bought the mid-rise lift I still needed an adapter so made a new longer model without legs. My reason for going with the mid-rise lift over a conventional mc lift adapted for a trike was a couple things. Cost wasn't much more than the mc lifts and it could be used on my cars.

In order to change oil and filter on my RSV I just run her up on three 2"x6" blocks that are about 18" to 24" in length. It allows me enough clearance even with Carbon One skid plate attached to do the change.. Now getting the trike up to 12" high would have its advanges, but the way I see it you still have to get down on the ground to do the deed.. Anyway it works for me. By the way a large piece of cardboard sure helps to lay on..

I've done that before as well. Even better is to buy a section of the foam flooring you can get at Harbor Freight. They interlock together. I just put two of them together which is plenty big enough to lay on. If just kneeling I'll use 1.

FYI, Have done many oil/filter changes without lifting our trike. Not sure what the issue is?

To get any trike up off the ground to do an oil change, consider buying a couple of those auto ramps where you just put one in front of your trike; brace it with a piece of wood so it won't slide and drive up onto it. The front end will be close to a foot off the ground.

Sure seems to me by raising just the front of the trike will allow that old bad stuff you are trying to get out to flow to the back of the crank case: Thus not completely draining all the oil possible beyond the drain plug hole . I agree it might be only a 1/4 cup or so and the new filter would be able to handle it but, I ask why not just get as much as you can in the first place?

I agree with Leo, I don't need to jack up my trike to change the oil. Maybe you need a flatter pan to catch the junk oil...

Or you could buy one of larry's trike lift adapters for your jack. He made me one and it gets all 3 wheelz off the ground and high enough to crawl under there. <img src="images/smilies/grin.gif" border="0" alt="" title="big grin" class="inlineimg" />
