Default Stallion Oil Change

Does any Stallion owner use synthetic oil, if so what type and specs?

I had mine changed at Zook's, and they installed Amsoil synthetic oil, and I think a Amsoil filter.

Mine is changed by the local Ford dealer and I am using synthetic Motorcraft, Ford oil, 5w20W. Seems to be doing fine on it.

I have always done my own bikes and since I am retired I also do my pickup to have something to do.

I use synthetic oil the oil filter mentioned in the book we got with the Stallion.
don't forget that there are 4 grease fittings on all but my Stallion, I have 5.
2 grease fittings are on the U-joints at both ends of the drive shaft, almost a foot long. those are not easy to see.
2 grease fittings are on the steering arm which all can see when you open the hood.
I have a grease fitting just below the brake pedal on the shaft where the brake pivots between the petal above and the shaft that goes back to the master cylinder. TBMS fixed that up after my Alaska trip.

I use synthetic oil too. I did an extensive write up on changing the oil some time ago. It has pictures and goes step by step.

I do my own and use Mobil 1. I took the valve covers off of my old Chevy van several years back to do some mods and the valve train and inside of the covers were so clean, I had to call over some friends to show them how clean the Mobil 1 kept the motor. Been using Mobil 1 since '76 in all my vehicles.

Ford actually has two types of synthetic, partial and full. Which one did you use?

I use the regular auto oil and remember that your stallion is an auto motor. I also used the mobil 1 auto oil in my '83 Harley with no issues. Back then there wasn't a motorcycle blend. It probably was more of a change of containers than different blend. Mobil 1 has been used in everything including aircraft motors.

I use Mobil 1 oil (5W-20) and either Mobil 1 or Wix filter. Change it about every 5,000 miles. Now have a little over 12,000 miles. Ride safe.

Tom I had a brain mishap I forgot I was on the Stallion thread not the Harley thread. My issue is that no one local carries Mobil 1 V-Twin that I like to use. I mostly use AMS OIL now until I find a source for the harley. The Stallion loves Mobile 1 car oil.

You could try Jireh Cycles which is an off shoot from MidWest Motorcycle. That is where I get my v-twin Ultimate oil. Buy about $100 and the shipping was free. I found someone else who used the oil so we ordered together and had free shipping to my door!!!

There are no grease fittings on the U-joints on the "newer" Stallions per Nick at TMS. Mine is #530 and I do not have any.

    Tmog,
This engine is not a Vtwin, it is a Ford Ranger engine. V-twin oil is made for wet clutches with a lot of dirt and a harsh treatment of the wet clutch plates which is not present in the Stallion. It seems like overkill and a lot of money that is not needed. In new car engines, failures due to lesser quality oil are very rare if you change it at regular intervels.

To follow up with the oil change, I completed mine.

I used one ramp on the front wheel which gave me plenty of room and the oil filter was easier to remove with the spring loaded two jaw unit previously displayed.

Mine took 4 quarts and I used the Ford partial synthetic that was about $19 for a five quart container and the Ford Ranger filter was about $8. The original filter was made in the UK and was slightly longer than the replacement. The numbers were also slightly different as indicated earlier in a picture. TM told me to just use the 2.3 Ranger filter.

As previously recommended and per my past posting, my Stallion did not have the grease fittings on the drive shaft, but I did the two on the steering linkage. I did not see the fitting on the brake linkage, but I did not look very hard for that one.

This was a very easy procedure as long as you follow all safety precautions and use proper equipment.

I guess if you re-read the post prior to my answer you would not have written your post as they were looking for v-twin oil and all I did was give them another option !!
