Default Receiver Hitch

I am purchasing a new 2010 Stallion Trike. Was told that I did not have to purchase the Trailer hitch assy because all the Stallion Trikes come equipped with the hitch assembly what you would be paying for is the receiver part. Is this correct? Because I would rather not purchase the receiver for $175. But I do want it to be equipped with the hitch incase of future use. Thanks for anyones help!

on our 2009 came with hitch and receiver and a 1 7/8 ball, wired for a 4 wire trailer, basically ready to pull a trailer. Again this was a 2009, not sure what they have optioned on the 2010, that used to be standard.
Hey Metaldad,

I'm not a Stallion owner, yet, but the receiver hitch is an OEM option. You can buy a Stallion with or without this add-on option. Some Stallion dealers sell the Stallion as "base" models, with any OEM options for $24K and change.

Correction to my last statement. It should read without any OEM options on the base model.

    Default options

Options you will need are the adjustable peddles, seat back and the trailer hitch. DOn't buy one without these unless you plan to look for used parts, and even then You would be in for an uphill battle, as I don't know where you would find them.

the receiver part is DIFFERENT than 90% of them out there.

the hitch tube that the receiver goes into is up and down not front to back and therefor that will be a 90 degree bend in the receiver part.
I would check out where you could get a receiver for that before I turned down the option.
if the only thing you turn down is the AC/heat the total price is about $27,000. which is $6,000 less than what most of us paid.
the trunk is not very big and if you are 2 up you may well need more storage space which would mean a rack or trailer which needs the receiver when on a trip.

if you got NO options the price will be $25,000 with tax and title, not 24,000.

TBMS is still offering the "base" Stallion @ $24995.00. Options with prices are as follows:

- A/C: $3895.00
- Back Rest: $295.00
- Cruise Control: $395.00
- Adjustable Pedals: $425.00
- Trunk Carpet: $150.00
- Trailer Hitch: $175.00
- Fog Lamps: $250.00

As I recall, there is an additional ~$850.00 charge for freight to your dealer. Not sure if that charge is absorbed by the dealer or passed on. The vertical hitch receiver is similar to that used by many of the aftermarket companies for use in motorcycle hitches but should be considered unique for the Stallion application. There is no known aftermarket sources for this hitch, and if so, you would be responsible for tapping the existing wiring for the trailer harness.

My opinion: go with the factory hitch. One less thing to worry about.
For all practical use, you will get a standard ball hitch. If you wish to use it as a normal reciever hitch, you will need to remove the ball mount and weld a 6" reciever tube in it's place as I have done to mine. Now you can either slide in a tube with the ball hitch or slide in a rack just like they do on the SUVs. Harbor Freight makes a smaller aluminum rack for under $100 witch weights 35lbs. Cut off some of the tongue to fit closer to the rear and you also save on tongue weight. I did and it works great.
metaldad welcome aboard. As you consider the options on your purchase there are some things to be aware of. Like mentioned by a couple of others the hitch is unique. It might be worth the 175 not to have to mess with finding one or making one. The adjusible peddles are good if you change drivers and they have different leg lengths. I spoke to Jeff Vey the owner and he told me the non-adjustible have 3 different bolting locations so they can moved to the best spot and then left there. I like the cruise and the fogs lights and back rest. AC is a frill. Carpet is a frill. My opinion
