    Default Windshield

Is the 7 hole windshield standard to fit all models. I was wondering if a Clearview windshield for Heritage/Fat Boy would work to replace the FLRT windshield. The recurve and vent sound promising to reduce buffeting.

All of these retailers would love to sell you a Road King shield. Unfortunately (in MY opinion) there's an unacceptable gap between the headlight housing and the cut-out at the bottom of the shield.

Some don't care about the gap ~ YMMV.

I check every two weeks. The first retailer that introduces a FLRT-specific 18" recurve shield gets my busine$$.

well i went for the R/K shield and yes there is a lot of up draft not real bad but annoying, so I'm looking for a windshield bag and ran across this one, and i do believe it will cut the wind down coming in from under the shield around the headlight, i checked the reviews and there was a guy that had one on a FLRT so I'm going to give it a try, here is the bag and info http://www.amazon.com/T-Bags-Windshi.../dp/B0067F0V8S

I am wondering if this Road King vented CVO shield shown here (bottom pic) is just a straight bolt on or are some mods required. I understand the gap issue with the 7" vs the 9" headlamp as I will be changing out the headlamp to a 9". Blogger "Proudcoppop" posted this image of the mounted shield I think looks nice. Where is this available? I need a shield now and not a fan of the H-D bolt and crack shields. I know they will be available in time, but I really need something in the meantime. Preferably something in the 16" range. Don't want to look through it.

Any help would be so much appreciated.

Also, user "Screwball" posted this image of a nice looking shield. Can you give me the details on that? It looks very solid.

Damn, when I saw that picture I thought it looked familiar! That windshield is from my wife's old '08 Deluxe. She didn't like windshields, so it hung from the rafters of the garage for 7 years. The stock brackets were far enough apart, BUT the grooves weren't . Since I have more time on my hands than I have brains, I drilled and machined the grooves / slots to match the brackets on a Road King windshield bracket. Fit just fine.... but the windshield was way too tall.

Used a carpenters level to measure from the bridge of my nose to mark the top of windshield. Covered the whole top 1/2 of the plastic with masking tape then used an old 8" windshield I had on my Ultra to make a nice curve where I was going to cut. Saber saw with a fine blade, and 5 sandings with progressively finer paper and TA-DAAAA a cheapo windshield that works great.

Oh, I took the old windshield bag from my Ultra, punched some new holes and trimmed the attachment piece and I have a freebie windshield bag. I also have a 5volt, 4 port USB splitter under the seat. I ran a cord into the bag so I can charge my MP3 player, or Bluetooth headset if necessary.

While I'm bragging, also made a bracket that is glued (double sided outdoor rubber tape) (the kind that hold car badges on) and covered in Velcro. I can attach my iPod and GPS to it. There is a power cord for both tucked inside the bracket.

Thank you so much for the info. I'm flying blind here, so I appreciate the responses immensely! I guess the Free is just not important to the 3rd party vendors or H-D for that matter.

We are using a lrs 20 inch shield with recurve. There is a gap at the head light but i do not have any wind hitting me from the gap. The air is very slight but does not pass to the rider. I have heard of some having air flow to the rider. I do not have that problem.

    Default Laminar Lip

Another option for a recurve windshield is to add a Laminar Lip to one of the stock HD windshields. I've used them on other bikes in the past and they work very well. About $85 for a Road King model.

Default Windshield advice for 2015 HD Freewheeler?

    Hi all,

I am new to the forums so please forgive if I am asking a question that has already been asked I am a female rider and recently traded in my RoadKing for a Freewheeler. After about 300 miles of learning to push and pull instead of lean lean lean I am loving it! However, the excessive wind coming around the tall windshield is hard to handle. Just got back from a 2000 mile trip across several states and the wind was moving my head around so much it wore me out!

Any suggestions to reduce this? I noticed one of the other members said they purchased a windshield bag to cover the gap between the headlight and windshield and was wondering if that help reduced this?

    Thanks!

Tango1 I don't think the gap is your problem. I think you have buffeting that is hitting your helment. A recurve or laminar lip addec to the windshiel you already have. It is possible the bag may help some but I dont think that is the problem. I am adding a fairing for tunes and protection later on. I am using a roadking 20 inch recurve and no buffeting at all. I went with a 20 inch for protection for my wife. Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new ride.

Thank you Dirtdobber! I ordered the lrs 20 inch and also a windshield bag (needed one anyways) I will keep ypu posted on how it goes. I use to ride a Road King with a 20 inch stock windshield and never had a problem with wind. I know the frames are similar just don't understand why the difference with wind and noise. So bad on freewheeler my glasses kept coming off!

    Tango,
I have a 16" LRS Shield, windshield bag, and 1 1/2" tank lift installed on mine and still get a lot of updraft from beside the tank just in front of my knees. I almost bought a 20" LRS shield while they were on sale this weekend to see if it made any difference. Let us know how your 20" shield works out for you.
    Thanks,
    Red

The biggest difference between the flrt-freewheeler- and a roadking is the head light. The flrt uses a heritage head light. That is why there is a gap for the head light opening. Even with a heritage has a gap on top but fits better on the sides.

LRS had a great promo on their windshield. Ended at 5pm today. Got 78 bucks off I sure hope the 20 inch makes a difference. I do get a lot of up draft... which makes me think a windshield with a lip on the top will not make much of a difference but I am hoping for the best. Took the freewheeler out today with a full face helmet. Helped a lot. Keep u all posted.*

Tank lift reduced the up draft allot for me. Still get some, but nowhere near as much as before the lift.

Ok. I asked on another site and was told that HD said these will work...Called down to the Harley dealer we bought our FreeWheeler from and asked them about this:

    http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...PAC+PDP+Bottom

They say this will bolt up and work...*

Before I get all excited about it... I wanted to check with you all *

I think dirtdobber said those fangs wouldn't fit a Freewheeler w/o mods. If they won't,here's another company that makes these that might.
http://www.jescustomaccents.com/cate...?categoryId=34 You might call them and ask.

I bought the H-D fangs like the ones you referenced above but they wouldn't fit our Street Glide w/Auxiliary Light kit. So,I'm probably going to buy the JES fangs since they will fit our front end.

    .
Nope they are not a direct bolt on because of the turn signals. I bought the exact same set with hopes of an easy modification to make them work, still working on them.

If using a running light bar with turn singals incorparted with them then they will work. I spent several weeks to check to see what will work. If you drop by a hd shop look at the 2015 roadking then you can see what needs to be done.
Will it work, yes. Just got to move the turn singals.
