Default What is realistic

I have just started looking at going to a trike. I have a very low mileage HD Electra Glide Classic that is paid for. Not many miles on it since 3 of the last 5 years I have been on active duty with the National Guard. Anyway, trading is out of the question since I don't want to give my bike away. Looking at putting a trike kit on it, but can't seem to get a straight answer that doesn't change. I spent about an hour on the phone with a dealer last week. I was very specific and asked three different times about cost. Yesterday, I drove 4 hours to complete the deal and the price changed $2000 from what was quoted over the phone.

Can someone recommend a dealer close to middle TN that is reputable and will give a fair price?

What is a good price on a trike kit?

Hi there prm. First of all, welcome to TrikeTalk! and thank you so much for your service with the National Guard! I don't know what this country would do without you guys and gals.

What brand of kit are you looking at? It does make some difference in the price. But you definitely have a great bike that will make one great trike! (I am sending you a PM)

    Homer,

Everything you need to know about Frankenstein Trikes is on their website. I have spoken to Frank himself and was always treated well. They were always helpfull and fast with a reccomendation or help when needed. That and their prices are among the lowest in the industry. It only took 2 weeks from the time I placed my order till the shop received the kit. It took a few days longer than normal to get it because I asked Frank to anodize it black for me. It's too bad you had some bad luck with them (not a normal event trust me).

With that said... I hope you enjoy you FLHXXX... That's a nice steed indeed.

prm welcome aboard. I know he probably a ways from you but contact site sponser and fellow triker "Bazooka" at Adventure Trikes. He does conversions several different brands, and is straight forward and honest. You can start off by "PM"ing him to establish contact. Even if you don't buy from him he will answer your questions. Great guy and you would not go wrong with the extra effort to purchase from him.

My kit came from Frankenstein - like you, I was not about to give up what I already had. We have a local builder here in Tucson who has just moved from Calif, and he was great to talk to - even came to help with the install. But even without him it would have been great. The guys at Frankenstein were great over the phone (ask for Dan) and answered a lot of "silly" questions before I even placed the order. The do seem to have some fairly persistent issues with their website, so I would definitely advise you to pick up the phone instead.
But hey - as long as you're on the road !!!! COngrats!

welcome to the forum and i'm glad you got something that you are happy with. nothing wrong with the XXX. just to echo what pup and maria said, the guys at Frankenstein are awesome to deal with. i actually talked with them and they apologized for taking so long to respond to my recent email. said that they have been slammed and have little time to respond.

not an excuse and i'm not justifying any lack of response, but you did right in continuing your search for the perfect ride for you.
I don't know what an "average" price would be as there are so many brands and extras offered by various manufacturers. I had my '08 Ultra converted with a Champion solid axel kit. I had the Champion EZ steer, reverse, matching two tone paint and 3m fender film included in the purchase and, while the bike was in the shop, had it bored out to 103"; SE255 cams and compression releases installed and a heavy duty clutch spring installed. Already had the true duals, SERT and Ness Big Sucker before the conversion. The cost for the Champion parts, engine parts and labor was right at $13,000 out the door. You can do without the reverse.....it's an easy install if you find you want it later. The EZ Steer is a must have item but you can save a lot by using Tri-Glide trees on your bike. My dealer is in South East Ohio.....shame you're not closer as this is the absolute best HD shop I've ever dealt with!!!!

The Triglide does come with the rake. He is referring to converting a 2-wheel big twin like an ultra into a trike. The Triglide trees can be installed to rake it at a lower price than purchasing EZ Steer. See Ultraboy's article about it, entitled "Harley Raked Triple Trees, an Alternate Approach". You'll find his articles in this section of the forum:
