cool suits
I wish some one would come up with a cool suit for hot weather riding like gerbing has for cold weather riding.
On my recent trip to mo. and ark.the heat really got to me and really took it out of me.
I do not know about some of you more mature people like me,I am seventy,but the heat really gets to me.

I find some interesting equipment being offered for sale that is suppose to help with the heat. i also read a lot of forums and a lot of people have some real good ideas about how to help with the heat.
My favorite idea is to avoid the heat. I only ride in the early morning and I park it before it really gets hot. It works everytime.

I have a wicking shirt I got from Cruiser Works. it is an Orange tight thin pull over . Sounds strange but it wicks moisture out and away from your skin and as it evaporates it cools you .

Understand completely. The older I get, the worse it seems. These Texas summers, though, are good training for our next trip - Texas to Grand Canyon thru Death Valley to California, up the coast then over to Reno, back thru Phoenix and El Paso. Found some long-sleeved Starter compression shirts at WalMart that work well for sunburn prevention. Got some short-sleeved ones, too - they all are moisture wicking material and are more comfortable than regular tshirts.

I found an evap vest works great and last for hours. Use it on long, hot kayaking trips too.

One of the tricks I learned from the Goldwingers I road with back in the 80's here in Arizona, was to soak a sweat shirt in water and then wear a windbreaker over it. It was just like evaporative cooling. I'm not sure how good it would work in high humitity, we have a dry heat you know! We were able to ride in temps over 110 doing this.

We use vests that you soak in water for about 2 minutes, ring out or blot off and ride. The vests cool by evaporation, last about 2 hours or so and really do make a difference. Ours are by TechNiche. Website:

I don't remember where I originally read it, but on our long trip I did the tank-top base layer, then a long-sleeve (men's) cotton button-down under my mesh jacket. Soak the button-down with water & wring it out so it's damp. The tank top makes this polite, and the mesh lets the water evaporate slowly. And - no sunburn. <br />
Of course, when it rains on you, just unzip the mesh when it stops, and you get the same effect...
