Thread: SE air cleaner

  1. #1

    Default SE air cleaner

I have the pcv and vance&hines Slash cut slip-ons on my 09 TG. Will the Stage 1 air cleaner do OK with this or will I need another map for the PCV? Taking it in for service soon and want to have it put on.

    Thanks

You will be intaking more air so you will probably need a different map to add a little fuel to fatten it up. You could try it without a new map and if it isn't popping on decel or sneezing you might be ok??

Did you get the PCV from Jamie? If so, his map is probably already set up for a SEAC. His maps aren't really set up for each bike to order like everyone thinks, they send out maps that are close to your build. No way can he have one for every bike combination he sells to.

Find the receipt and call them, he will ask you for your invoice # before sending you a new map. They will tell you yes it will be OK or no it will not. If not, they will send you a new map via email.

If you have the auto tune feature, it won't matter. It will tune itself eventually.

You may want to stay away from the HD SEAC. The filters are made in China now and fall apart.

The dealer will tell you I'm full of crap. OK, when they do fall apart where do you think the parts go... sucked right into your motor so get it in writing that I'm full of crap so you can make him eat his words as he rebuilds your motor for free.

Arlen Ness Big Sucker is the exact same thing with a better filter. You can buy one from Jamie when you call him about the map or find one on Fleebay.

Final note... they are very, very easy to install yourself. Takes 15 minutes, just follow the directions. (that means reading them to George )

Wiz is correct, the Screamin chicken filters were outsourced to a Mr. OneHungLow working out of his 1/2 car garage in Chongqing China, and they do fall apart. The Ness Big Sucker continues to be the one to pick, and what I would recommend.
Here's a chart with some CFM flow numbers of varoius air filter manufacturers.

Advice taken. I would NEED to read the instructions to George. He doesn't read instructions. I just inherited his Dodge Magnum with Hemi...."I go fast" but anyway, I read the owners book. He was so braggy that his new Avalanche had all these special features like adjustable foot pedals. Guess what. The Magnum has it too!!! He never knew it. LOL!

I've got a K&N on the Deuce, and just two days ago decided to clean and re-oil it. I'd never done one before, so followed the included directions pretty carefully. They specifically said to 'liberally' oil the filter with the spray can included with the kit - and to touch it up (from the clean side) if any areas were not tinted uniformly red (inside and outside).

Anyhow, after reinstalling it and taking her out for about an hour, I noticed (red) oil all over the right side of the engine, the seat, my pants, etc. Brought it home, cleaned everything up, blotted the filter to try remove excess oil, and took her out again. Same thing. Then today I wrapped it up tightly in absorbing material and let it sit out in the sun for a couple hours. Took her out again, and no more oil.

So - a note of caution - don't saturate the media like I did. Probably should have gone a lot slower and allowed more time for the oil to soak into the media.

In the process, I removed the 'football' HD air cleaner cover, and substituted 'something else' - temporarily. I will reveal the 'something else' when I get photos. I like it so much, the football won't be going back on again .

They really need to change 'liberally' to 'sparingly' or 'lightly' in their printed instructions. I've read that some with fuel injection systems and sensors have caused some serious problems with over-oiling K&N filters. Some go so far as to recommend NOT OILING them.

Wanted to temporarily cover the K&N filter while troubleshooting the oil leak problem, and could not find a pot lid the right size, but this worked so well I'm leaving it on - like the look of the exposed filter. FINALLY - a use for all those AOL CDs we've gotten in the mail over the years. A lot cheaper than what K&N or Ness wants for a chrome (billet) tin cover.
