Default gold wing value

I have someone wanting to trade me a 2002 GL1800 for some bulldozer work.

IT is a one owner with 5,200 miles on it and it also has reverse as well as all the other gagets.
Yellow in color, with a couple of small scuffs on the rear bumper and right side saddlebag. Looks like a kid on a bicycle accident.
There is also some light rust on the engine guard and rear floorboard guards.

What would this bike be worth in todays market and how much would it cost to convert it with a nice kit?

Question Re: gold wing value

Sounds like it has been sitting a long while,I would not give too much for it,it may cost a lot to get it running right.New tires, cleaning the fuel system etc.
BE CAREFULL!
Also check for cracked frame.

About $12,000 to a low of $ 8,000 the fuel system is fuel injection . You didn't say it has not run in years . if I only sat 1 or 2 years it will run just fine . Min cost with you doing a lot of the install $8,000 or you could go Frankenstein for about $6,000.. if u could turn it into a trike for $16,000 it would be worth about $21,000 most of the damage you talk about will be tossed .

Check the VIN to see if it was one of the Bikes in the series with the frame stress cracks. If I remember that was mainly 2003, so you maybe OK. Someone with more 1800 knowledge will hopefully pipe in and answer that for you.

I concur with everyones comments so far. I would first find out if it runs. If not how long since it has. Gas will varnish up and harden as I'm sure you know. But when you are talking about your labor and the possible good base for a nice trike, I would go or it. Add a major brand conversion for 7 to 10k plus labor and you will have a nice trike for mostly your own labor. If you are hand with tools doing the conversion yourself is not out of the question. Didn't work out you are only out your labor and can sell the bike for parts.

THanks for the opinions and to clear a couple things up.

This bike runs great and was easy to start. The reverse worked as well as the rear air ride. I did not go through all the electrical do dads. The only issues was the small conmetic blemishes.

He was asking 10k for the bike and even though we are talking about a labor trade for it there is a lot of out of pocket mantainance that goes with running a bulldozer. That basicaly means I can not put 10k into it unless I could sell it for 10k to collect on my job.

As far as doing the conversion, I am pretty handy with tools and could most likely do everything except the paint if the kit comes with pretty decent instructions. I would be wanting to use a trunk space type kit that give full coverage to the rear end. Any recomendations?

As far as mantainance goes. Changing fluids and filters on the Harley is easy. Whats involved on a wing?

Go with a Champion or Roadsmith.. as I said the cosmetic blem will be tossed out when u convert. The Champion (I have heard come prepainted.) Very important because that Yellow is and expensive 7 layer paint job.Depends on how big a job is going to be traded for the bike if it is worth it and only u know that .

I built a Champion. The instructions were top rate. You can go to their web site and down load them and see if you think you can handle it. Maintance is a little harder for the GW only because for some things you need to do you need to remove panals to get to. With what you say the condition is, I still think it sounds like a good deal. If it were available to me I would.

Oil and filter change very quick. Air filter will take some time beacuse you have to tear one side off the bike to get to it.

The bike sounds sound, and most likely fit. It would sale fairly quickly for that price,,,, in the right time. Being in business ( I assume you are ) you full well know and realize that times are hard, and uncertain. The out of pocket expenses you mention is there and a given. Weather on a paid or trade job. The big question is if you are really serious about getting a Goldwing, and then converting it to a Trike, this is an easy and less expensive way of doing it. In the past 10K of dozer work was about a full section of land leveled and cleared,,, today it could be just clearing a spot for a garden..... What is the job in time to move on to the next one.

Ask yourself this: What will I save bottom line at the finish line 1K 2K or 5K, versa finding a good used Trike, or buying a bike and Triking it out.....

Read your post, IMHO
1. The rear suspension is not air, it is hydraulic on an 1800 Wing.
2. Installing a trike kit yourself limits the kits you can buy.
3. Champion is one that will sell you the kit. However, there are some concerns going on right now w/the new Champion IRS conversions.
4. The Trike market is extremely soft right now. I would be very surprised if you recouped your investment of the cost of the bike + the cost of the conversion.
Also, one poster made a comment about Champions coming already painted.
All brand conversions that I am aware of can be ordered painted to match.
Also another poster suggested a Frankenstein kit. These kits are for most bikes with chain or belt drive. As far as I know, they do not make one for a Wing.
One other thing that comes to mind is the need for a rake kit for the front of a trike. This makes the steering easier. Without a rake kit, I fear the interest in buying the trike would be even less.
Sorry for all the gloom and doom but, you asked and I gave my opinion based on over 4 years of studying, testing, discussing and finally choosing a conversion for my Wing.
Good luck,
