Default Yes..I'm search'en for info..

My bride of 37 years thinks I'm getting to old for 2 wheels. I've been riding since '68 on a variety of MC brands. I now own a '04 Honda Shadow Aero and have enjoyed riding it in these Arkansas hills. I'm 2 years away from getting a trike ( have to pay off the truck) so I thought I'de spend the time reading and learning from y'all. Thanks for letting me join the site, looking foward to learn about the world of trikes. Joe

Hello Joe, welcome to the board. It is good that U are looking early. The more U know the better off U are. Also In the mean time ride all the trikes U can. Each one rides different. U will find the one that suits U and your bride. It is important to find out how it suits her too (if she rides). Best of luck.

katfish..yep'er..she jumps on the bike every time I fire it up..she's getting heavy for these old bones so that's the reason for the trike idea..just have to get the bank funds to be able to put gas in a trike. I see your retired USCG..my son has 11 years in the CG. He's in aviation in Savannah. Just came out of 4 years in Kodiac last July..Really bad news out of Hawaii..the boy knew the swimmer when he was in Kodiac..everybody is kinda down right now. Joe

I'm doing the info search right along with you, Joe. I love riding (of course!), but my knees aren't what they used to be, and the Chief and I don't really care to do the 2-up thing.

Everyone here on these forums has been so helpful, especially in suggesting rallies where I can go and do some test-riding and pointing me in the direction of further info about models, suspensions, etc. etc. etc. Good luck with your fact-finding mission!

And, good luck to your son. The Chief and I are both retired Navy--airdales.

Thanks JUJU..I'll pass the "LUCK" on to my son..were really proud of him..he really loves the CG..and he's going to make my bride a grandma, I'm to young to be a grandpa.. LOL..due in late March..hopefully another coasty in the oven. The doc's told that I'm a diabetic about 3 years ago..it really zapped the strength in my legs. Thats why I had to go to a lighter bike. So, I sold my HD dresser and bought this Shadow.. I wasn't ready to give up 2 wheels but I can see that I'm getting close to 3 wheels for safety sake..don't want to hurt grandma. Joe

You never to young to be a grandpa. I'm 59 and twice grandpa. I wish I had more.

Hey, sell your truck and by the trike. I'm just kidding. I agree, take your time and ride as many trikes as you can. Once it's a trike, it's a trike. You put too much money into a trike to become dissatisfied.

Say, how do you like Bella Vista? I just spent a week in Mt Home and the chiggers ate me up.

Hi Patriot...We love Bella Vista..chiggers are a small problem..put "Absorbine Jr" on the bites twice a day..gone in a week, they're small and don't eat much. The month of June is the worse after that not bad. We do spray when were outdoors. BV offers a lot of amenities..low crime rate,5 Walmarts within 30 minutes of the house.LOL....there are no mosquitoes cause of the bats.. multiple bike and car dealers. Three major hospitals. Five minutes from major highways or back country roads. Low taxes and reasonable houses..under 150k for 1800+/- sq ft. Mine is 1750 and I pay 1k/year in taxes. Best of all..Branson is 2 hours away.
Now, can't sell my truck..it was a retirement present to myself. Ford 150 KR 07 loaded. It's a pleasure to drive..handles like my 02 Mustang use to. 18-20mpg on 87 octane. We love being in the wind or else I'de quit riding cause of this truck.
One question about grandkids...will they eat my trike money??? Take care Joe

Welcome to the gang Joe! A lot of us went to "training wheels" because of aches and pains and then found out how great they are anyway. Keep a sharp lookout and you'll find some really good deal on a trike just when you least expect it. I will bet that a LOT more people buy used ones than new. In the mean time, like the others said, ride some if you can, get all the info you can from the different trike companies, talk to everyone you can with one and you'll make the right choice. We're so glad you found us and hope you'll enjoy our family...Oh yea, grandkids WILL take your trike money, car money, mortgage, grocery money......

Oh Great TJ..................Thanks..I think...it's good to be aboard. Used is not out of the question..right now I'm doing a lot of research on the engineering aspects of each trike kit. I'm planning to go to Tulsa next year and spend a lot of time with the trike people and dealers from the area and to ride each and every bike and kit combo. I watch E-Bay and Craigslist but am not finding a lot of used trikes up for sale with a decent price. Mostly finding dealers selling new trikes. Back in '95, I helped a buddy build a Motor Trike Kit and was able to put @ 100 miles on it a couple of months later. We loved it..probably should have got one back then but the banker said no go..she wasn't giving up the HD and 2 wheels. But now shes old and I got her where I want her..RIGHT!!!!

Joe, U might also check out the Goldwing board 4 sale.
: : : GWRRA : : : Gold Wing Road Riders Association : : : then go to the 4 sale section. Even if U R not interested in a Goldwing the members have several different types of trikes for sale on there. Also U can alway buy the 2 wheeler U like and have it triked the way U want it. The good thing about buying a used trike is like any other bike it comes with a lot of add ons. U might also check with Bazooka since he is dealer. Good Luck.

Thanks Katfish..I've been look'en..like I said before, the banker is hold'en me back..she's mean and I listen to her!!!! I have a couple of years to play with this idea. I'm not an impulsive type of person. It took me 5 years to decide on which camper and truck to get back in the '90's. We had it for 10 years and went all over the country and enjoyed every mile. I want the trike to be the same way cause I think it's going to be the last "in the wind" machine I'll ever own. I'm leaning towards the GW and I may get it sooner..(I had a dream that I won a 12m lotto). Joe
PS..I do love those Alabama mountains so I'm sure we'll get your way someday..It's also on the way to Savannah.....It would be a beautiful 3 week vacation. Also, I've been on Zooks site..Dalton is a long way for warranty issues. I don't think the local dealers would be real happy with me.We have a couple of dealers that do a lot of trikes.

Mostly MT. As of now, I'm leaning towards an independent suspension..MaMa's gett'en soft!!! Russellville Powersports has the Trikeshop Roadsmith and they do a good job putting the thing together. I talked with the installer and painter..I'm also looking at the DFT and Hannagan..all have they're +/- ...Hannagan is in Springfield,Mo..I've yet to see him..going to soon..come-on lotto.....

Joe, we have a toy hauler that we carry the trike and trailer in. This way we can enjoy camping and also have the trike to enjoy running around on. I think if I were looking now I would take a hard look at the RoadSmith trikes. I like the idea of being able to buy the parts if needed at the local Auto parts house. Good luck on the Lotto.

Only problem after you take 3 years to decide you will get it and with you did it 10 years ago Life is too short. Take it from some one that saw it happen. A friend put off buying his trike for 3 years . Finally bought it in Sept. 2005 he died this year 2008 in Jan.

I hear ya John..sorry about your friend...it's just that I'm on Government welfare now..if I bought a trike today, I'd have to go back to W***...I can't even say the word.
Katfish..I know what your saying..that's a great to travel..here in the village ya can't park the trailer by the house..it must go to storage. Plus I can't justify the cost with the amount of usage it would get..the wife still has 2 more years of W*** before she can get SS. My stocks and pension are falling like a lead duck. I may have to move in with the kids. I hope they like my Trike.LOL...The Roadsmith is a fine kit and the guy in Russellville does a great job putting them together.

It's the longest and heaviest of all the kits and with a 6° rake, I was wondering how the neck bearings were holding up?
I have questions about all the kits and little by little I'll spit them out. I do have to ride a few of the ones I think mama and I will want to live with for the next 10+ years. Thanks for the help. Joe
