Simple Sleeper | Trekker Trailers

Please take a look at the above website and tell me what yall think, I am consider becoming a dealer for this outfit. I had a long conversation today with the owner about perhaps making some changes to construct this trailer lighter. I think with some changes we could get it below 500 pounds with an A/C installed. 460 without.

Changes.

(1) building the sub-frame out of Alum and not steel.
(2) using rubber tortion axles and not a straight axle and leaf springs.
(3) Deleting the DC wiring and heavy deep cycle battery.
(4) Deleting the steel cargo rack on the rear. (with no battery on the tounge the tounge can be used for a cooler)
(5) Narrowing the entry doors from 30" to 24 or 26 and moving the wheels foward about 6"

Is this outfit just too large to tow without causing dammage to the drive train of a trike?

If it is not, how realistic is it that trikers would tow it with their junk inside and sleep in it while on the road and then motel when they arrive at a rally?

It is not any more money than a factory fiberglass cargo trailer.

Well at 650lbs dry weight its about twice as heavy as I would feel comfortable hooking to my trike. It doesn't say what the tongue weight is but it looks tongue heavy to me. Trailer and gear about 400 lbs max. IMHO

I think that it is too heavy and doesn't offer as much as most of campers that are built for motorcycles. I purchased a combi-camp in 1988 pulled it all over at a much cheaper price and was very comfortable in it with the add a room.

IMHO Not a good unit for motorcycles. Weight,height,width, not really designed for motorcycles or trikes. The lack of dressing or standing room in unit is a MAJOR negative if you plan to camp. If you're not using it as a camper than all you need is a luggage trailer.

My original thoughts of this unit was to use it as a luggage/cooler trailer during the day and an Airconditioned sleeping bag at night, not a full service camper. If I am going on a camping trip then I am going camping but when I am going to a bike rally I have a different mindset. Stay in the trailer on the road and in a motel or friends when at the rally.

I also agree that I thought it might be a little large but I wanted to get opinions from others who have much more experience than myself with trikes and trailering. The last thing I want to do is burn up the trans in my new Gold Wing.

Personally, I wouldn't consider pulling that with my Goldwing trike.

I talked to the bulder last night and his new projected weight with the alum frame is #480 with A/C or #440 without, He was aslo going to lower to sides 3", and make the door 5 sided with a little cut-out at the bottom to allow the wheels to be moved foward 6" give it a projected tounge weight of #30-40 empty. Luggage could be moved around inside to fine tune the tounge weight for the best pull.


I was really hopeing to have received more feedback from the long time trike ridders here as well as the real gear heads.

No. The wind drag plus the weight--I wouldn't pull it with my wing/trike.

I had considered building something along those lines.The trailer weight complete could be gotten down to 250 to 300lbs,possibly lighter with molded fiberglass bodies.Welded aluminum frames,aluminum drop axle,and using foam core fiberglass panels will eliminate some of the side and roof framing.My idea was a simple sleeping trailer with side doors,roof vent,LED interior light,small battery for light(maybe battery powered light),and a small rear shelf for storage.A basic sleeper of sorts.I posted in another thread that all I need is a place to nap.The camp sites I stay at have comfort facilities with restrooms and showers.Heck,if it's summer,all I need is a tree,a grassy flat,and a creek.
