I need help installing voyager trike

I purchased a used voyager trike kit for my 04 Harley Ultra and didn't get any of installation or support gear. I ordered installation manual and the jack stands from Voyager but manual isn't very clear. When installing belly pan if i install with flat end forward so you can access drain plugs I can't get the 31 inches to center rear tire and if I install with open end forward I can't access drain plugs. So which way goes forward and what is exact reference point for the 31 inches. Manual says center rear wheel. Thanks for any assistance

Been a while since I did one on an FLH so I cant help you with which way the belly plate goes off the top of my head, but they don't normally cover up the oil drain plug. Id suggest you give Voyager a ring tomorrow and get the 411 from them.

On most of the Harley Touring bikes the Voyager belly plate has a large cutout on the forward edge. Once installed that way, the 31" to 31-1/4" measurement for adjustment is from the center of the large bolt(s) on the bellypan to the center of the rear axle. I like to have mine set up a bit shorter, so I've moved the bellypan 2" forward, giving a 33" measurement.

Of the greatest importance in your installation (other than making sure everything is aligned and straight) is the preload. To set the preload, I rolled the rear wheel on a smooth 2 x 4, yielding a 1-1/2" preload. I have even set my preload up to 2-1/4" while testing to find the best handling (and ended up at 1-1/2"). Get alignment, preload and tire pressures set right and you'll have your Voager kit working at its best with your Ultra.

I agree Larry. Pre-load, alignment and tire pressure (all 4 tires) is critical to a Voyager Trike behaving well. Im not sure why, but it seems as Voyagers recommended pre-load height seems a bit low. The factory recommended pre-load on the larger bikes like the FLHs is 3/4 inch but I always go more as it handles better.

Yep, I totally agree with Randy - the installation manual does call for preload of about 3/4" on the HD Touring models. I think you should start from there and increase it only if you think the ride should be more stable (i.e., stiffer) as I did. Also, if you have a small floor type jack in your workshop, you'll probably find that the adjustable feet that Voyager recommends find very little usage.

U R sure the used kit came off the same bike you ARE putting it back on . (Sportster to sportster , Tourglide to a Tourglide etc. ) the belly pans are not interchangeable. 1988 to a 1989 Goldwing won't even work.
