    Question Have Voyager trailer wiring question

    For those who are riding a Voyager kit, I have a wiring question for pulling a trailer. I bought this set up used and before I contact Voyager directly I'll ask here. The wiring for a trailer is a 4 pin flat plug, and then it has two single wires for the turn signal lights. Since I assume that most of the pull behind trailers come with a 4 pin plug, how does one adapt the Voyager wiring to the trailer. The person I bought this setup from never pulled a trailer so had no answers for me.

    Krazy;

    I have a Voyager kit, mounted on a 2009 Kaw Voyager 1700. What I had on the used trailer I got was a 5 wire plug! The voyager kit came with a 5 pin to 4 pin wiring harness, driven by a 5 pin to 4 pin converter from MTC/Voyager. My wiring was a mess to say the least!. I ended up modifying the wiring on the trailer to accept the Voyager 4 pin flat 4 pin plug, all is well. If you need color codes for the Kaw, I think your wiring is the same as my Kaw 1700, and I have the wiring/schematics for that in my shop manual. Just let me know.

    Thanks for the input. I have the large shop repair manual for my '02 Nomad which should be close to the same wiring as this Classic. BTW, I took a look at your Photobucket, NICE ! :-)

    When I installed my voyager kit on the Kawasaki voyager I wanted more lights on the rear, not just the MC lights. I purchased 2, 6 inch surface mount LED lights and mounted those on the fenders. I also bought one of those little import car converter thingy to connect it all to the MC. This device combines the stop and signal lamp to use the same bulb and costs about 15 dollars. I got mine at WalMart, about 2 inch square and 1/2 inch thick. The device has a plug on it for a quick disconnect when the wiring is completed. I tapped into the wiring under the seat and installed the device there and ran wire from it to the new lights. Basically I treated the voyager kit as a trailer and added lights to it. The lights on the MC were not changed and still work normal, the lights on the voyager kit act as tail, stop and turn signal, when the signal light is on and the brake is pressed the blinking light keeps blinking and the other stop light on the other side lights up for stop light and the LED lights added very little to the electrical load and are super bright.

    I think the converter is the way I should go. I already have adequate lights on the back, and I'm just trying to find the best way to wire it up for a pull behind trailer. The wiring currently on the Voyager kit looks like was put on afterward by the original owner.

    Woolie:
    I have a Voyager kit on my 05' Dyna and have 1300+ miles on it without a problem. I didn't purchase the Voyager light kit as I always wanted LED lights on the fenders. The wife & daughter bought me two mini tombstone LED taillights from J& P cycles for Christmas. I went to a few local aftermarket bike dealers and they all said the lights could be wired in but would only have stop & tail function without a $100+ controller. It sounds like your $15.00 Walmart thingy would do the same thing and wondered if you could be a little more specific about it so that I can go to WallyWorld and find one as well.
    Wish you and all the members have a very safe and Happy New Year 2012!

    Like Woolie I wired the Voyager kit as a trailer using incandescent lights and a "trailer converter" (four wire) for the separate turn signals. I unplugged the OEM rear turn signals. The Voyager lights work fine with the exception that when the brakes are applied the turn signals flash very fast. I think that it needs an electronic flasher unit but can't find an OEM replacement so I'm just using them as running lights and turn signals.

    P.S. Just figured out my problem.........have to have the OEM turn signals hooked up for the "trailer lights" to work as brake and turn.
