Exhaust for BMW KLT Hannigan conversion
OK, so I convert my '06 BMW K1200LT to a Hannigan trike in June of 2012. Ace Trikes in NJ does a great job and it turns out beautiful as Hannigan makes a great looking conversion. It rides great, handles very well although it took a little getting used to the steering going from 2 wheels to 3, but no problem! Both my wife and I couldn't be happier. The only thing that doesn't set right with me is the dam exhaust note. It sounds like a bad exhaust leak running through a garbage can, especially under hard acceleration. The conversion calls for cutting the exhaust behind the Cat and extending it with flexible tubing. I've even tried header wrap as I thought it may be resonating within the extension piece. Has anyone else with this or any other conversion noticed a sound change or am I just noticing it more since the exhaust is enclosed by the body?
Secondly has anyone with the BMW Hannigan conversion found or installed a replacement system for this trike? There are a few companies that advertise systems for the 2 wheels version like Remus or RB racing although I haven’t seen any from the latter manufacturer.

I have a 1150 RT with a Hannigan Trike Kit and it came with a Remus Exhaust. The kit is 08.

Was looking into a Remus system but it would have to be extended as was the OEM system. I'd probably be able to purchase a solid extension piece locally. Do you know how they extended the system on your trike? Thanks......Rob
Re: Exhaust for BMW KLT Hannigan conversion
Have you contacted Hannigan Motorsports for advice? My KLT/Hannigan made no such noise.
Re: Exhaust for BMW KLT Hannigan conversion
Hey Ben, The difference between when it had 2 wheels and with the trike is quite noticeable to me. As a bi-pod it was fairly quiet but now I can definitely hear that ticking sound similar to an exhaust leak. I crawled around beneath it while it's running and can't find any leaks. I just attributed it to the flex type extension they added that's causing the tinny sound. A friend of mine had the same conversion and he noticed the unusual exhaust note also. Could just be the trike body is resonating a normal sound. Guess I'll just have to get use to it......
Re: Exhaust for BMW KLT Hannigan conversion
Mine sounds a little throatier after the conversion. Sounds fine. I also sprayed Linex under all the bottem surfaces to help with the road noise and rock hits from underneath.
Re: Exhaust for BMW KLT Hannigan conversion
I, too, have a throatier sound, no apparent leakage.
Re: Exhaust for BMW KLT Hannigan conversion
Last summer I have 2002 K1200 LT with Hanigan kit, converted by Cross Road Trike & Trailer in Salt Lake City, I never have any rumble or any strange sound, nice smooth sound as BMW bike, untik got hit by hit and run late summer, they are converting 2007 for me now, suppose to have it done this week but Gene have a bad accident, Ben try to get it done before winter come.
Re: Exhaust for BMW KLT Hannigan conversion
Alas, the quiet LT became louder with the conversion and I think it is just the way it sounds enclosed vice open. I also had quite a vibration issue with the bit of chrome by the shifter until I had the local folks weld a hook to tie it off.
