Riding with Kidney Disease
Hey all,
I have been riding my whole life it seems (since age 12). I was diagnosed back in '97 End Stage Renal Failure. Was put on dialysis for about 3 mos and then my youngest sister gave me one of her kidneys. It was one of the most selfless acts I have ever seen done. Her kidney gave me freedom from the dialysis machine for 8 years. During this time I had stopped riding mainly cause I just had no energy or trust myself on a bike.
After the kidney started to fail I decided I better sh*t or get off the pot before it was too late. With the wife's blessing I got an '08 Harley Ultra and it was just a blast man! I had almost forgotten what it felt like to get the knees in the breeze. Then around 2011 I started noticing I was losing feeling in my feet and hands (one of the many side effects from Dialysis). Riding the Ultra started to become more a chore than a joy to ride. Annette (my wife of 28 yrs :) ) told me I should try a TriGlide. When I finally did I was HOOKED. It gave back to my joy of riding and have been riding ever since.
I was just curious if there were any other riders here who have kidney dialysis or have been transplanted that still ride? Would love to hear some stories.
BTW wife and I are making plans for Sturgis 2015. Spearfish will more than likely be my dialysis center while I am there. Starting to make the plans now :)

Your story is very uplifting for many of us with disabilities. So glad that you are riding and enjoying it, again. Wishing you many carefree miles.
