Just ride the thing, Worrying just leads to more worrying, And then that will worry you more than just worrying about something you shoun't be worrying about......

Worry won't make anything better.
If it helps...I rode my '14 all over North America, in all kinds of conditions, for almost 60K miles and when I traded it in the original water pump was still working just fine.

Have to agree with Kevin, Scott. Mine had 34,000 before it went. So, does not seem to be mileage related. They are all over the board. Some have gone out with much lower miles. I rode mine back to where we were staying in Fl. about 100 miles ( after checking with my Dealer). I had the Love Jugs on & kept watch on the oil pressure (hot = low pressure). Never below 33 lbs.
Maybe a mechanic can answer what happens when the water in the engine doesn't circulate. Will it heat up enough to blow a head gasket?
The water circulates above the head gasket and around the exhaust valve so all it will do is run hotter. If pressure get to be too much the radiator cap will vent.
Still, I'd get it fixed asap.

Pump problems
Well Guys,
I don't have the miles on my '15 like most of you guys but at 84?? the pump went out and BH Harley is 775-800 to replace it with the M8 water pump.
In the shop now

I road my 14 TG from Ottawa, Ontario to N. Tonawanda, NY over 300 miles with no problems at all. The mechanic in Ottawa said "It's a Harley, it's air cooled. You will have no problems making it home. Just try to stay away from bumper to bumper traffic as much as you can." I live in Chicago.
The NY dealer was the first dealer that was open (Sunday) and had a pump.

Water pump
Hey Guys,
I forgot to mention that when I was talking with the HD service Dept. about riding it in they told me HD says drive it as far as the closest dealer??? what does that really say about how far you'd be able to ride it, sounds like a 50/50 you FU'd deal to me.
It sounds more like ride at your own risk

After reading these posts again, there seems to be a misconception. Might be mine .
The cooling system on the water cooled bikes does nothing for the jugs, just the heads and specifically the area around the exhaust valves. Take the cooling away and it basically goes back to an air cooled head.

Let me first say that i'm not a engineer....
But I would think that when Harley went to Semi- Water -Cooled they Re-calibrated the fuel management and EMC systems for an engine that runs cooler ....With the pump not working the calibrations will be off and the engine will run way too hot......

Reminds me on my first Maggie Valley trip . Water pump took a dump , no one had one . Labor Day weekend , spent 4 days in a Hampton Inn in Virginia. Got to know every employee on every shift . When we picked up the trike the cost was $200 labor . N/C for the new and improved replacement .
BTW we did make it the following year and had a hoot :clapping:
