Champion S/A rear end question

My left Axle is leaking fluid for the second time. It was just fixed under warranty a couple months ago. Question...Before getting it fixed again I want to check the rear end level but am not sure where the oil should be. Champion says when changing fluid not to put in more than one quart and I'm told that this won't take it up enough to drip out when the plug is removed. But..how much below this port should the oil be? Champion says not to fill above that hole, but that's really impossible. The leak is very small but I don't want to run low on oil before I can take it in.

Take out the plug and stick your finger in to your knuckle and then bend it down then pull it out. If there is oil on your finger you should be good to go. Works with most automotive rear diffs. Of course this will not work with Roadsmith because the RS rear diff has another plate attached to it so you can't get your finger in there.

Thanks Stephen. I guess you're saying about 3/4" below the hole?

im by-passing the dealer(3 months)they too to fix the last one... still waiting on champion to respond to my warranty request to do it myself.

Now that I know where the oil level should be I discovered I don't have a 24mm wrench or socket to remove the inspection plug. This will also fit the drain plug. I've got a 6 point 1/2" drive socket on order from E-bay.

Don't feel bad when I went to the 6 degree rake I didn't have a 30 mm socket. Just ran down to Sears and bought one. It'll be all nice and shiny still when I need it again in about ten years. :D
