Front Tire
I have a Gold Wing Trike and have been running a rear tire on the front for years. Now I have a 02 Harley Lehman Trike too. It has a Harley front tire on it that needs Replacing. I am trying to find out if Harley does the same? On the Gold Wing it makes a big difference.

Re: Front Tire
I talked to my Harley dealer about using a back tire for the front and of course they did not recommend it. I have 19,782 on my trike and all the tires are original. I will probably change it at 21,000. I have been looking for alternative tires for the front but am not complaining about 21,000 on the Dunlop. I keep my tire pressure at 29 pounds which is what is recommended by Lehman. I also ride very aggressive in the twisties. I really wish I could find a car tire for the front as it would offer even more traction I believe. I wish the Michelin Activ tire was available in a 16 inch. I can not find the specs on the Dunlop rear tire as compared to the front. It has 10/32 tread versus 5/32 tread that the front has.
It may be a softer compound on the back as to why it wears so quick.

Re: Front Tire
You got 19000 miles on the front tire & this tire was installed when it was triked , or was on there before it was triked ?? On my 98 road glide Champion I replaced it at 8000 it was worn out , the 03 has about 7000 on it & I do not want to ride in the rain with it, theres not much left , I run 40 pounds of air in the front, 18 - 20 in the rears. What has anybody else got for mileage out of there front tire ? On my 2 wheel flht I will get 20000 miles out of the front 10000 out of the rear. MAYBE I NEED A RIDERS COURSE OR SOMETHING ????

Re: Front Tire
I had over 20,000 on the front tire on the DFT, that I traded in on my triglide. It still looked good, couldn't understand that one. I would ony get about 12000 on it before i triked it. now i'm wondering how the triglide will do.

Re: Front Tire
I've used rear tires on the front of both of the trikes I've owned before the T Glide. Honda and Harley. I usually buy them online, many times get free shipping. Lots of wear on the front tire and the rear tire almost always has more tread depth and is less rounded, thus putting more rubber on the ground. Usually have to replace them, doesn't seem to matter what brand, around 15K miles.

Re: Front Tire
I have over 20,000 miles on the factory original tire on my trike. I bought it new all ready triked by Lehman from my Harley dealer. I am down to just a little over 1/32 of tread left and am looking for a new tire. Looking at a Michelin Commander rear. Not sure yet though.

Re: Front Tire
Just to update on my front tire, 20,307 miles, Dunlop 402 stock oem tire. I just put on a Michelin Commander rear tire, reversed on the front. I talked to a Michelin representative and he said he could not see anything wrong doing this. The first 75 miles it seemed a little noisy but after 100 miles I didn't noticce any noise. I rode over the Beartooth mountains yesterday on the Dunlop, and today on the Michelin. They both handled well when I really pushed the corners and then the rain came down as we were coming down the mountain, I had no problem with the corners, my two wheel friends were feeling them as being slick. I had four deer throughout the day cross in front of me and the braking was fantastic. Now we will see how the mileage goes.
