I was wondering if ECM from a 2005 will work on my 2001?
I think the 01-05 are basically the same ride, but there were some changes ... specifically dealing with the cooling parameters, i think around 04 ... before you try it, I'd contact honda and verify.
I've attached the link to the service bulletin for the 2001-2003 for overheating. http://www.gwrraiachapa.com/bulletins/1800SB13.pdf This is used to correct the overheating in earlier models. I cannot see why it wouldn't the 2005 work.
I’ll check with local Honda dealer here Monday to find out. I know they want 700+ for new one and I’m willing to bet the price of used one (around 100$) to try it. Just wanted to make sure that they’re compatible. Tks for responses.

Just by looking at the part numbers, I would say that a 2001-2003 would work without any other problems, but there is something different in the 2004 and later models.
2001 GL1800 38770-MCA-671
2002 GL1800 38770-MCA-754
2003 GL1800 38770-MCA-A01
The 3 Above Replaced by 38770-MCA-671
2004 GL1800 38770-MCA-A21
2005 GL1800 38770-MCA-A41
