Hello, Could a lower tree, with the pivot pin attached, be attached to a lathe and machined down? Example: Nomad tripple tree and machine the pivot pin down to fit an '84 Yamaha Virago, cut it to length, and match the head bolt thread. Some times it's scarry what a mechanically declined mind will come up with at 2am. Thanks for your time
Possible....at least somewhat at least.
The main problem I see is that most of the jap bike pivot pins are made of tubing that is just enough thickness for the bike it goes on. It is very likely it does not have enough metal thickness to be strong enough after you reduce the diameter.
I would do some measuring and run a few numbers and make the call over whether enough strength is left or not.

Maybe they have conversion bearing that do not need a major re-machine.
The only way I have done it is by swapping out the entire stem. But this involves machining and welding.
Ditto on the All Balls Racing. As long as the new pivot is longer than the old pivot, all you have to do is make a spacer to take up the length difference. Easy-Peasey!
