Oil Change.......geez
On my ride today I stopped at one of the local dealers ( HD ) to ask about the cost of an Oil Change. So my first question was, how much to change the engine oil only. $129.00 (Are you kidding me.)
Next question, who much for all the oil holes to be changed. $289.00 (Are you kidding me) Then he said after I made a few comments, wait till the 50,000 mile service and Oil change, $2800.00
After a few more comments from me he said....You should check on service cost before you buy something.
Guess I won't be doing any business with this Dealer.
-
Wow, its cheaper to change the oil on an 18 wheeler: Ultimate Package $264.99 and they check everything.
-
I need to look up the 50K service and see why so much. Drive belt??

That's why as soon as I'm done with my service contract, I'm going to an indie place to do all my work. He does things at a little over half the cost, and the quality is better.

Depends on what my overhead was.
That's what my indie mechanic bases his charges on. He's a certified Harley mechanic, does better work than they do, and charges half the price.
I call him "my" indie mechanic, but he hasn't worked on the iron horse yet. He worked on my Night Train that I traded for the TG. Charged me $205 for a all hole change and changing the rear tire (I supplied the tire).
He's going to be the one to work on the TG once all warranty and maintenance agreements end.

My Harley dealer wants $400 for a 3 hole change. Of course that was the 1000 mile change. The 5000 mile was a little cheaper at $300. I bought the maintenance plan, so I paid for them in advance. I really need to rack up some more miles on it so I can break even on it. Already got a battery change and tire mount out of it, so I'm getting close.

Buy the '17 and get a new deal. :D

The 50k service includes the belt change. Labor intensive on a Trike. Also consider replacing the rear belt pulley, as I have seen them cogs wear out. It's only aluminum, and ya got a 1200 lb thing with a rubber band constantly wearing out.
Im sure others will disagree, but it's info I must pass on.

I just changed all three holes myself, had about $ 90 in oils and filter. So if they charge you $175 they are getting about an hr labor.4 quarts of Lucas $8 X 4=$32,one black filter $15,one quart Belray trans fluid $15,two quarts primary oil $30.So $175-$200 isn't out of line. When it comes to the 50,000 mile service i will shop around,in my younger years I would do it myself.

When they had to change out my belt on warrantee, the service manager told me it would of cost me $1500 if it wasn't warrantee. The body must come off and the axle removed. Then it all has to be realigned with lasers. On a side note, after they finished, the trike went way straighter ... guessing it was out of align from the factory.
I also believe the 50K includes the steering damper replacement ... $500 part. I think I just read that on one of the threads.

I owned 7 Ultras between 1992 and 2017. One service back in 1992 taught me to learn to do most of the services by myself. Harley labor prices are an absolute rip off but they charge it because the Harley owners keep paying it. Almost anyone can change out the fluids on a Harley Ultra if they want to. Most of the items on the 5000 mile service was check this and check that.
To put set backs on the handlebars on my Wing Trike cost $65.00. My buddy wanted to put set backs on his Triglide. $900.00 New handlebars, cables, labor, blah blah blah.

Insane prices, why would u change a drive belt@50k Is beyond my thinking
-
I guess I'll keep doing all 3 holes myself until I come to one of those service intervals where they want over $2,000 to complete. Then I will shop around and if I can't get it done for about half that then maybe it will be time to put this partially made American made bike on Craig's List and go buy a metric again.
-
I agree
Insane prices, why would u change a drive belt@50k Is beyond my thinking
I am not in the habit of fixing things that are not broken just to spend Money... Ride safe Fred

I would think a dire belt would be like replacing the timing belt on some cars at 60k. You might get away without doing it, but, it might leave you stranded somewhere some day. Around here ... there are lots of wide open spaces with no people and some with no cell service ... :AGGHH:
