There are plenty of guys that have over $50K in their TriGlides. A new current model TriGlide with just freight, tax and zero options, accessories, pipes, performance mods or extended warranty is $40K. Have you ever seen a stock Harley or a stock Goldwing? Factor in the Boss Hoss and other V8 trikes, the Rewacos, customs, the average is up there.
I can guarantee you that if the TriGlide owners added up every penny they have spent on their trike, there would be a lot more in the $40K to $50K and over $50K categories. Most of us dont want to think about what we have in our toys because it really doesn't matter as much as being happy and enjoying life.
As a community, we are all closer to the end than the beginning so peace, joy and happiness matters. Most trike and trike conversions are sold due to the wife's descision, I see it all the time.
.........................Wow, Zook pegged me cold! (Have 2016 Harley Triglide bought new last year)....and I didnt think I really could or should afford it. Got it anyway....now the little fatty keeps getting more and more things added constantly! Each time I say "Thats enough spent on this trike!"...... (and then later I visit a Harley Dealer or see a website that has something I just gotta have)
....Zook is correct about all!!!! .....even down to reason for buying the 3 wheeler when I told wife we should get a motorcycle for fun.
.......................= Wife told me "Get the trike or take a hike!" (and she knew I didn't do any hiking)
..... WOW! I've been so exposed!

I paid $5300 for my wife's 2007 sportster with a Frankenstein kit. I've probably spent about $800 on lights, windshield, etc. So, on that one I'm in for about $6100.
For my Road King, I already had the bike. I spent about $10k on the conversion. So, I figure the investment is the current value of the bike plus the conversion. Otherwise, I was looking at selling the Road King and buying a trike.

$28,000 for Honda Goldwing
$10,000 for trike conversion extra
and I'm now a very happy boy! I love the trike!

Have owned 6 goldwing trikes. 5 1500’s and 1 1800. Currently have a 2000 1500 SE with Lehman conversion with 43,000 miles. Factory aqua boards and rear light bar. I think I stole it for $8000.00

2011 Tri- $33,800 new
I'll just start with the big stuff
PM wheels & new tires: around $3500
HHI triple trees: $ 800
The awesome reverse gear I got from Papa Z. Hated that weenie-sounding electric reverse... $1200
Yaffe front fender $ 399
Ness caliper housings $ 400?
Floorboards JH Choppers $ 700
Painted inner fairing $ 499
Misc stuff from Covingtons $ 500
Cobra exhaust pipes $ 499?
Slip-ons $ 399
amp & speaker kit $ 499
Power Commander $ 399
First rack for tour pack $ 399
Metalsport rack for tour pack $ 499
Fan assisted oil cooler $ 175 used
Handlebars $ 499
That puts me well over $10K in goodies. Holy Crap!
Then there's the engine covers, shift linkage, brake pedal, other stuff...
Plus heated gear for both of us, a few jackets each, couple helmets each, Sena intercoms.
When a new box hits the porch, I get the "Geez, do you ever want to retire?"
But she does like the way it looks. Picked up a couple show trophies last year. She liked that.
She has her own money pit, a Slingshot. She bought a $1000 set of shocks, some striping, I got her the red engine hoses.
May as well do it now, after we retire we won't be able to blow big money like this.:D
I got 4 years to go...

2 Attachment(s)
Already had the bike.
Figure $6000.00 for my 89 tourglide
$4000,00 for the new motor
$10,000.00 for champion straight axle kit.
$600.00 into front end and triple tree.
$0.00 for my labor in building it myself?
$20,600 total
When i first built it it didn't cost me as much as it would to replace it.

Interesting poll and responses. What grabbed my attention Zook, was your creative little flow chart, 'cause I don't usually do polls. If I put pencil to paper for my trike, the wife would have to Baker Act me, we just have to ride and enjoy and not think about the investment. Think about Kevin and his Mrs. (of DK Cycles), man do they have a good time on that TriGlide, and post good things for our enjoyment.

Wow that is a hard question.
So much of mine can not be bought anywhere. How do you put a replacement value on something that is a one off?
So I would put it at the maximum, not for the sake of price of purchasable parts or the amount of dress, but for the amount of time and expense it would take a paid shop to re-create the rest of it.
