Been thinking about why you were targeted.
1) American
2) Long Hair and Beard (LOL ... dope maybe)
3) Shinny new Red trike ... red vehicles always denote the trouble makers
4) Did I mention American????
I think being alone in a remote area had a lot to do with it, along with the perps knowing they had no gun for self defense....just made them ripe for the picking.
Same thing could have happened in the U.S. very easily given the circumstances.
When we are out on these rural rides and remote camping areas here in the U.S. be sure to not let our defenses down.
I’m not aloud to say what I’m thinking right now :fightingaddme:
Your story kinda reminds me of a book I read about Glen Heggstad, To Hell and Back. But your's has a mutch better ending. Glen's had a good ending but after so many months it didn't appear it would.
Good read for anybody who get's a hair to travel down thru Mexico and South America.

Just did a bit of reading on him, ordered his book. Thanks!
You and Mary's adventures are ones we love to follow and can not wait for the next one to post. We all are so grateful that you both suffered no physical harm because this could have very easily had a very different outcome. Glad you are home and safe. It is a pain in the ass to replace all the material things that were taken but you both are blessed to be able to do so.
Yes, we are very fortunate!
Still going thru quite a bit on the ID and security front. Just while I was responding to your post Mary called. Someone just tried breaking into our online banking a few minutes ago. That was the second time. The first time was a couple of weeks ago. Everything is locked down again!

Red Trike attracted attention, then I was a dumbass and stopped in an area where there were not a bunch of other folks.
AND...something we just found out today. That scenic pullout we stopped at....when we did a google map of it today...there is a review from someone else that was robbed at gunpoint in the same spot...they were in a car... just 4 months ago. So it seems that is a prime spot that the thieves have as a regular place to hit.
Replacing all of your ID and new credit cards is a pain in the you know what, the flip side is you are both OK, Welcome back home:clapping:
Thanks man!

Yes, thank you. Could have been worse!

Yes, agree with you on all points.

Some dork took $ from my checking account. The bank made good on it , but what a PIA changing C/Cards and account # along with the rest of the BS.
Now every 6 months I call the c/c # and report that I’ve lost a c/c . They issue new # ones.
Thank goodness your ordeal did not end like this missing New Hampshire couple who were camping in Corpus Christi Texas..

Yeah that ! Sucks big time. Mikey
Every time we travel, by car or trike or truck, whether it's just us two or more, I tell wife code words for "we need to go …. NOW". I'm always armed, sometimes 2X. If I utter those words we agree to, she knows what to do. If we go missing, there'll be some evidence.
I've been to Mexico in the early years of my life, but there's still a lot of USA to see the first time and a lot I'd like to see again. Canada doesn't inspire me to travel. Other places, there is no bridge to anyway. I think I'll just stay here.

Sounds like a good plan all around!
Almost every day i read in the papers about people being held up at gun point...
And so i have to say to myself if thats the case..........
Why do people keep on going there.......

Probably going to end up being illegal immigrants looking to make a few bucks in Mexico's black market.
If/when the perp(s) are eventually ID'd, Mexico will refuse to extradite them due to Texas having the death penalty for just this sort of heinous crime...
Me thinks you (Kevin and Mary) where lucky ... seems Mexico's violence is ramping up. Apparently an American family was caught up in a cartel battle and ended up dead.

I quit going to Mexico long ago. Having survived Nam in one piece, why would I want to subject myself to any further violence of that ilk. Hell, if I want violence, I only need drive through certain areas of Houston ............. :D

These Americans lived in Mexico. I heard 9 dead, but at least some of the kids survived.

Last report ... 3 women and 6 children ... off shoot of the Mormon Church, Polygamist Sect, not that that matters.
I checked the State Dept. Travel Advisory and it doesn't seem very safe to travel to Mexico https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories/mexico-travel-advisory.html It's getting too dangerous to leave the states.
Only Mexicans carry.........US Citizens can't.........:(...;)...
🇺🇸 I’m staying here !
