Linked Brake System Info And Explanation Of How It Works

I read everything in my Trike service Manuel today concerning the linked brakes. It said nothing about any special adjustments needed. It did however go into detail about a specific way the linked brake system is suppose to be bled and serviced. If this is not done correctly there could be issues or if there is a plugged or blocked bleed back valve on the front there could be braking issues. There were several symptoms mentioned which included dragging or locking brakes.

This is how the Linked Brake system functions according to the manual.

The rear brake peddle activates the middle pistons in the front brake calipers when applied along with the rear brakes. The front brake applies the rest of the pistons in the front calipers when applied. The outside line to each front caliper is from the rear brake peddle. The front brake by it self only operates the front brakes.

Need to sit and do a 'look-see' at reversing the pedal / lever. My old Polaris Quads had a break lever that did both, and a pedal for just the rear breaks. It would be SOOoooooo much easier for crippled old me to do most of the breaking with my hand.

I am curious whether you did a "look see" and came up with a way to brake with your hand - Russ

I'm a right A/K amputee currently riding a 2015 Freewheeler. Looking for info on how to modify brakes so right hand lever operates front and back. The local Harley shop tried a modification that left me with locked up front brakes about 5 miles from home. Another possibility would be a rear brake pedal on the left side of the trike. Currently using a RIDE-ABLE pneumatic system for the rear, but it lacks the sensitivity of hand or foot operation. No one I know of in Louisiana does these kinds of mods. Any help would be appreciated!!

Adjustable combo valve from summit racing?

My understanding from an HD tech was that this system IS UNIFIED when your speed is under 25 MPH this is when it kicks in. So being an avid down shifter I just wait until thats my speed.

I would still opt for an adjustable combo valve JMO With braided steel lines, Flush the fluid once a year
Use these to test the copper content of your fluid

I don't know if you've figured yours out yet or not but i built a Sporty trike last year and built a system where my front and rear works off my front brake lever. I used a wilwood distribution/ proportioning valve so I could adjust how much brake went where and I used goodridge sniper brake lines and fittings that I got from tcbros.com and it works great!

I'm a little late to this topic, but could someone explain the basics of bleeding the Freewheeler linked brake system?

A vacuum bleeder would probably be your best bet.

I probably wasn't clear & I apologise.

I understand the basic procedure of bleeding & have done it on cars & bikes,

But as the OP mentioned, I have heard there is a specific procedure because of the linked system, i.e.

due what bleeder 1st, 2nd, etc.

I recently purchased an electronic service manual covering my 2017 FW. I has the specific order to bleed the brakes.

If you don't have 1 of these manuals & like myself, do your own maintenance, it is well worth it.

Never mind, I'm having technical difficulties.
