Bad summer
For 26 years, we have had dogs and cats (throw in a 30 gal. fish tank too). Due to old age, we lost the last of the 5 cats 4 years ago. We were left with our 2 Keeshonds, Heidi and Sophie.
We lost Sophie (the Black & gray) due to a tumor Aug.2, had to put her down finally. That really upset us as she was the younger of the two (11 1/2) and the real character.
Well, yesterday we had to put down poor Heidi (the Blonde) due to arthritis. The CBD and glucosamine chondroitin just wasn't helping her anymore, couldn't use her back legs to get up and her front legs were giving out. It was time to end her suffering.
We were in denial, tried to make them both last as long as possible, but the time had come for both.
Going to miss them both, they were quite a pair. It's very tough to put pets down, but we were there til the end for them. It was the least we could do for them.
No immediate plans for a new dog, but a new one will be a small dog, hopefully one that doesn't shed a rug each week (!). Wintering in FL, we'll probably get something next Spring when we come back North.

You've lost a couple of family members. (flower)(flower) Sorry to hear this Friend.
Condolences to you in this time of sorrow.(Angel)

There is no easy way of dealing with any loss like this
They become a part of our family like children

Sorry for your lose Jim. It is never easy. They are a big part of our families. Like has been said, they are together again and not suffering.
We lost my little Sheltie girl, Cheyenne, a couple years ago and I still miss her everyday. We have other dogs but she was the queen of the place.

I feel for you Jim. I'll swear that losing your pets, especially dogs, is harder on us emotionally than losing a family member. With the exception of maybe a parent. Not in my case but maybe others. I've had to put down far too many and holding them as they go is heart wrenching but I always want to be there to help them go. My 15 year old pug was my last one. Smudge was her name and she has got to be the most loyal of all of them. Or maybe you always feel that way about the last one. Anyway, it's rough. I try to have another already. So we always have 2 or 3 all the time. Pound rescues each and every one. I always wonder how people can just throw away these loyal animals. Wishing the best to you Jim.

Thanks everybody for the words.
It is tough not to get wimpy when thinking about beloved pets that are now gone, they were such a part of your life and routine of your life. You really do miss them!
Talked to my brother and he said that they went without a dog for 2 years and then someone "gave" them another teacup poodle. He said it is always a great feeling to come home after a long hard day, and see that little rascal barking happily, jumping up and down, running in circles, and truly glad to see him. He said you can't beat it, and he could never get his wife to have the same reaction to his returning home... (HAHA, yeah, he's a joker! :Joker3: )
But we go on with life and will always remember and love our 4 legged buddies. And yeah, I love my wife, but also my 4 legged buddies, too. In time, we'll get another.
